At the end of August, I began to feel a cut around my vagina. Within a day it became super painful and swollen. I went to the gyno and tested positive for HSV1 after they swabbed it. Side note: A month before this first outbreak began, I had been complaining to my boyfriend that it felt like my skin was being pulled and irritated every time we had rough sex (in the vagina and perianal area). Unfortunately, I never looked down there during that time to see if there was any cuts so I’m not sure. But two weeks later, I started feeling the first symptoms of the prodrome stage and two weeks after that, my first herpes sore appeared. For some reason my gyno did not think it was herpes and did not give me any antivirals while I waited for my test results. In those four days, the outbreak exploded. But once I got the rest results back, started taking Valtrex immediately. Within four weeks, the outbreak cleared up and my bf and I decided to wait another two weeks after that before having sex, just to be safe. Before we finally had sex on Tuesday (for the first time in a month and a half) I double checked to make sure I was clear and I was. Everything looked and felt fine. However, the intercourse ended up being painful and again, it felt like my skin was being pulled. The next morning (today) I was still sore and checked myself out and saw that I had two tiny cuts near the opening of my vagina. These were definitely not there before I had sex.
My questions: if these cuts are simply from the sex, would it trigger another outbreak? I am still taking Valtrex as a daily medicine.
Is this something I am going to have to continually deal with if the cuts are a side effect of HSV1?
How can I avoid getting these cuts?
I have never actually seen any cuts until my first outbreak. I am so tired and just want my sex life to go back to normal. I was looking forward to being able to have sex again with my bf and now we are back to no sex until I heal and also figure out if this is another outbreak which would be ridiculous since my first outbreak only just ended two weeks ago! Please help. Any advice would be great
