All patients presenting with genitourinary symptoms require a focused history and thorough examination. The availability of genitourinary imaging should not replace the clinical skills which lead to a possible diagnosis and list of differential diagnoses. It is these that point the clinician towards appropriately focused tests delivered with appropriate urgency.
