Hello,
my consultant has offered me sac decom or gentamicine injection. from reading injection is expected to be more effective. The thing is i can live with tinnitus and hearing loss but dizziness and imbalance is huge problem. I would appreciate if people who have taken these treatment share thier experience.
many tks
M
Even after treatment there is still a very very high chance you will still suffer all symptoms. As for dizzy that will never go.
Hi there
I have had both sac and gentamicin ops. The sac stopped the spinning but not the awful feeling as though you were about to spin ect.
I then had gentamicin which helped for approx 1 year I thought I had my life back, but the wobblies begain again, not spinning though. I have just had my second gentamicin op and now hopefully after my brain has learnt to compensate I will be able to start my life again.
Good luck to you, but I would choose gentamicin again, it carries with it a risk of hearing loss, I lost a little and they gave me a hearing aid, so I will have to wait now and see if I have lost any more, but that is a small price to pay.

Hi M
I had sac op in 2005 it stopped the spins I still felt off balance etc. I then had Gentamicin in 2006 this helped for 1 year and I got my life back. my disorientation started again this Jan and I have just had second gentamicin injection, so I hope that works a lot longer.
in feb 2008, i had the sac decommpression, although it is a large operation i have been symptom free so far although it is not a cure. my consultant did not believe the injection was the best way to go for me.

I have suffered M D since 1988 ,and up until 2006 managed to cope with the slight attacks and 70% loss of hearing in my right ear .However since 2006 i started to experience very acute attacks so much so i was dismissed from my job .During the last 2 years although the acute attacks have stopped i now suffer lesser attacks every day But this is worse than ever i am a virtual prisoner in my house My specialist doctor has offered me gentamacine injections and i have agreed to have them .So i just hope and pray this will stop the constant spinning 24/7 i will keep u posted how i go on .
