Does a prescription for Betahistine have to come from an ENT specialist or can a regular family doctor prescribe it?
Hiya Patrick your doctor can prescribe it
My GP initially prescribed 8mg x 3 and after a few months my ENT consultant suggested 16mg x3 and although he didn't have access to a prescription he wrote to GP advising it.
My ENT wrote me mine, but I'm sure a GP can write it as well.
Hi patrick....if you are in the U.K. your GP can prescribe.
I’m in the UK but mine came from a normal GP, I assume it’d vary depending on your location!
You can get betahistine from your G.P. on prescription.
Thank you to all who replied. I know my GP said he would not prescribe any meds for me and I'd have to get my ENT to do so. I guess since I went to the ENT and they said I have Meneire's that he'll let him deal with that. My ENT has never mentioned Betahistine and I asked him if there was something beside the patches that I could take that would not have the dry mouth side effects and he replied "No". I may have to go to another ENT.
Hi Patrick I was in 8mg didn’t work 16mg didn’t work now on 32mg 3x a day and no attack since april, just feel myself again, feel normal at work even my hearing was back on to normal on last hearing test, this stuff works and no side affects at all, hope it works for you, good luck
Only ent can prescribe above 16mg
I hope I can find an ENT that will prescribe Betahistine. I live in Elizabethtown, Kentucky...about 40 miles south of Louisville. I may have to try and find one in Louisville. I think we only have one ENT in E-town but got to get online and check it out. I don't think my ENT will prescribe it.
You should not have a problem getting an Rx, my doctors are at Duke University Medical Center which is one of the best in the world and they had no problem writing me an Rx. If you don't have an ENT closeby, then I would go to your GP and see if he/she will do it. If not, they should recommend you to an ENT. The challenge will be finding a pharmacy to fill it, for some reason, it is not available at most regular pharmacies. There was only one pharmacy in the Raleigh NC area that would fill it and they had to mix it at the pharmacy. That said, once you get an Rx, if you cannot find a local pharmacy to fill it, there are several reputable Canadian pharmacies online that you can get it filled. I just started taking it (28mg/day) and it seems to be working.
Thanks Greg, good info to know.
