Getting ready to go back to work

So I am at 11 weeks anterior hip replacement and getting ready to go back to work - I hope - they released me back to the desk job at 6 weeks that I had for 3 years but since the release said no climbing ladders or squats - they wouldn’t let me come back... the new plan at work is to put me back out in the field in new store development and district management again - a job that I had done for 15 years - 6 and 7 days a week 12-16 hours a day... I am at a freak out point here... between the weather not good for walking and the flu - I feel really far behind everyone else’s recovery... I have been doing good to get 6000 steps in a day - and that includes my PT - where should I be? All I ever get from Dr is “listen to your body”... the thick feeling and the stiffness builds with the day - and I haven’t been on my feet all day long for 3 years - and definitely can’t take the almost jog of a pace that I am so used to - and expected to have ... help!

What about PR, phased return to work etc

If there is the slightest restriction at all - the owner won’t let me come back...

Everyone seems to think that THR is an easy operation.

It is easy from the surgeon's point of view, but the recovery is so difficult for us.

Luckily for me, my employer understood my problems, I had to have revision too so was off for 5 months. The HR department gave me a phased return to work over a month.

I started on just 2 days per week for max 4 hours, and I had a desk job.

It sounds like your employer is not so forgiving.

Unfortunately he told everyone I’d be back after 2 weeks - says he’s talked to many hip replacement recipients - and they went back to work in 2-4 weeks - I know it’s not so - but perception is reality in his case. I’m really fretting over it!

Sorry to say - your boss sounds like a jerk !!!

Agreed! I just need to use my head and not be pushed past what my body says I can...
