Hi all,
I'm scheduled to have my staples out next Wednesday and despite not being afraid of that in itself, I'm a bit afraid of being 'unprotected' so to speak! I know it will be well healed after 2 weeks but I'm very apprehensive to say the least. I haven't the smallest thighs on the planet and can't help wondering if the skin will withstand the pressure of sitting on the raised toilet seat for example. I know I'm probably being a bit irrational but it's a real fear and I can't seem to put it out of my head!
Any advice please?

Mine were removed in 2stages,a week apart, today the 2nd lot came out and I have a 'smooth'dressing on which apparently we keep on as long
as possible. Feels absolutely fine even on the Damon toilet seat! so don't stress xx
That should say damn or even deamon toilet seat!
Hi Ali , when I had my 26 staples out it didn't hurt at all , one or two stung a little . Nurse said I cculd take the dressing off next day if I wanted . I left it on for about 4 days. Everything was fine but I didn't wear anything tight . Had 6 week check up this week and dr said my scar was a great scar !
Good luck

Hi Ali, I'm not exactly small !! 5ft 6in and 16 stones. I know it is a real fear but I promise you have nothing to worry about. I've had both hips done one last oct 14th and the other dec 9th. After 2 weeks the outer scar is well healed and usually they put a dressing on for afew days after staples come out. Not pleasant but what a great feeling to have them gone !! Good luck and try not to worry Maggie xxx
Now worries ali.....I had 35 staples and they were taken out on day 15. My thighs are fairly large and I had no issues when the doctor removed them. The incision area was still a bit numb (and still is) so I think that helped. Maggiemac replied to you and she said she was 16 stones....i dont know what that means....from the USA and we say pounds.... you will be fine. Ginny USA NJ
Hi Mary,
Thank you. I'm sure it'll be fine. I will ask for a dressing when the staples are taken out which should give me some reassurance. I'm such a worrier!

Hi there, what is 16 stones? The language is different in the USA. We use pounds.
Hi Maggie,
You sound a similar size to me so that helps me a lot. I'll try not to worry too much
Thank you.

Hi ginny,
We talk in stones here. A stone is 14lbs so if someone says they are ten stone then that's 14 x 10 which is 140lbs. Hope that helps
It will be day 14 for me when they are removed and I have no idea how many I have. Hopefully it'll all be ok and I'm worrying over nothing.
Thanks

Hi Ginny
We use pounds in the UK too but we divide them in to stones. There are 14 pounds in 1 stone.

Mine was glued so maybe that was why I had so much drainage for so long, a month later had to go back for an I&D!
I had my 34 staples removed two weeks ago and it was absolutely fine. Yes I felt a bit vulnerable but no problem at all. I am not skinny either. It will be fine. I bought some bio oil to massage in daily too. Good luck x
Hi Ginny, it's 16 x 14. I always think pounds sound heavier !!!
I was glued so didn't have staples. It felt really funny at first when the stera strips were removed and the dressing, but the District Nurse assured me that it was fine and one of the best scars she had seen. I had a vision of the glue coming unstuck, but she laughed and said it was all healed and it won't come open and of course it didn't. Just be gentle when you sit down as it will feel as though its stretching, but it isn't, so don't worry, you will be okay. Keep it well moisturised and it will feel softer.
Smile, I read the first response from Maggie and MY mind went to dimensions! Thus I could still not quite figure it out
now I get it ..... Allora, I took a class in Italy a few years ago, and two of the other students were from England ... Goodness we had a lot of laughs with how we used the language differently, American English has "borrowed" so many words from so many languages and then put our spin on it
i do have to say, I have enjoyed seeing the language.... I am an ELL teacher so this has added to experiences to share with my students
Same here.... I thought the staples were huge...or at least they felt that way! I was surprised at how tiny they were and it was a small pinch when the nurse took them out.
I friend recommended the BioOil.... It is great, not greasy, I gently massage twice a day.... Seems to help the akin around the incision too
You threw me for a loop on that one....... Thanks for the chuckle!!!
I had my clips removed last thursday, hardly felt a thing, from then the scar has become more comfortable, I can actually feel that it is knitting together. Im not the thinnest either and feel really comfortable on the toilet seat this just helps as there is no pulling at all now.
Im 3 weeks post op and can walk with just one crutch. Going from strength strength.
Thanks everyone. I feel much less concerned about it now. I think I already knew I was being a bit irrational and you have helped me confirm that lol
Thanks again
