My GFR is now 23, slowly decreasing. My mum came to my last but one appointment and since then I feel like everything has just got worse.
She has spoken to the live donor co ordinator and had health check forms sent to herself and my dad to fill out for live donors.
I know she is just worried but i feel like i was plodding along nicely but now it all seems a bit more real and getting me worried.
Started having symptoms of feeling sick, constant bloody itching, esp my legs and also swelli g in hands and feet.
Is this just the start of worse to come?
Someone please say it gets better.
Really feel for you :-( im suprised that you are swelling up at GFR 23, can anyone on here advise why this is ?
Stephy, you must be under a renal consultant so do get in touch with him/her for the answers to your questions. Whether it is possible to achieve any improvement really depends on what is causing the problem and whether it is treatable. It would be wrong for us to advise you as we are not medics. We are all different and whilst some kidney problems can be helped by drinking plenty of water, there are other kidney problems where water/liquids have to be restricted. Lots of good luck wishes.
My sister is at 16 gfr, has no swelling, pain, her appetite is good. It is really baffling.
Hi Stephy,
Mine was 23 for three readings. Now it has gone up quite a bit. There are a lots of things that can affect reading- having an infection or cold, not being properly hydrated, eating meat within 14 hours of having test. Try not to worry and get the test repeated after a short while.
These are problems that can arise with kidney disease. Are you watching your sodium, potassium, and phosphorus? Make sure that you are cutting out all added sodium. Don't drink dark soda. Keep track of your bloodwork in these areas. It can help with some of your symptoms if you do well with these. There are lists that tell you what is high in phosphorus and potassium in case you didn't know. If you are high in these things your symptoms could be worse and or dangerous. Not trying to scare you just make you aware in case you didn't know. A few things that you can start with is don't eat banannas, potatoes, tomatoes and milk. These are just a couple things high in phosphorus and potassium. If you are a big meat eater eat less. Eat more plant based foods. I hope this helps. Take care.
Wow thank you so kucj. I didnt know any of this and eat all of these things and lots of it too. Huge help.
