Gilbert syndrome

Hi i went to doctors for blood test last week went back today to get results and dr tells me i have gilbert syndrome

Someone help me understand this please

Thank you in advance

Short story! When our blood cells die they breakdown and need to be processed in the liver to be expelled from the body. Ppl with GS cant breakdown those cells otherwise known as unconjugated billiribun so they keep going round your body and because this billiribun is yellow it shows in the white of our eyes sometimes as a yellow pigment and sometimes effects the skin as well. Doctors say it is asymptomatic and say that you will live a normal life which you most definitely will but all GS suffers know that it is not without symptoms. Some symtpoms is brain fog, fatigue, not good with words, cold hands and feet and others vary from person to person and also do the one that i have mentioned. Most common is brain fog and fatique!

Thank you very much i really appreciate your help

Thank you

Hi! I had a good result, stabilization, with an aminoacid L-Taurine.

I take a 500mg pill 3 times a day with meals. For the dose you should find it with your phisycian, I am 6.6 and 300 pounds. It also depend on how much it affects your life, for me it was a big big problem.

Wish you luck!

Sergio

Digestion problems are common with Gilberts also.

BUT..

There is GOOD NEWS..

The fact that we have high levels of bilirubin in the blood does protect us against heart problems..!!  They do not know the full reason, but the research has proven this fact.

For myself, and a few others, we have discovered that high levels of spices in our diet will make the Gilbert's disease much worse.  This is a fact well known with any good specialist doctor.

My bilirubin level was way over 100 and by cutting out ALL spices and herbs my bilirubin is now at 30. ( Normal is about 17 )

Spices and herbs that we eat are processed by the liver and bilirubin comes from the liver and it is thought that the actions of the spices and herbs causes the liver to produce excess bilirubin in some people.

All I can say is to try a spice free diet for a few months and see if it helps as it does for many people.

Sorry that there is no 'easy answer' to Gilberts and no easy pill, so we must try a few other ideas..

Hi! Just thought about: how do they manage to have a real number in our bilirubin if it is allways fluctuating? Example: in my case the Dr sent me to a blood specialist and he was the one who made the definitiv diagnostic.

Then I knew i had the Gilbert disease and I got a scientific explanation of my life problems but I never got a number of my bilirubin, because it was technically impossible due to constant fluctuation, Bilirubin blood test are, or they used to be, inconclusive. That is why I follow Gilbert's sites and read all the anedoctal solutions, if it works for you, it may or may not work for me, but I usually experiment on myself when I hear that "so and so" give a good result.

Luck and health

Sergio
