Girlfriend stopped taking Prozac? Withdrawals? Acting different?

So I’m pretty sure my girlfriend has stopped taking her Prozac cold turkey and she’s acting like a new person. When I first suspected this, I noticed another post on here about the same thing and a lot of others were experiencing the same EXACT things.

She’s been on it for a little while now and it seems to be working well for her. She mentions her sex drive is down and she feels just blah sometimes but I know that’s all normal. However she loves that it controls her anxiety attacks, keeps her motivated, etc. We are very close and we have big plans for the future. I’m relocating out of state to pursue my career and she wants to come with me. So everything is sunshine and rainbows up until the last couple days.

Her family is a Vegas family, they go a lot and always have comped hotel stays. This last week she’s been there with her sister and her dad and everything was normal. Before she left we spent a ton of time together, she told me not to forget her while she’s gone, all that Jazz. She also wears a ring (not engagement, more like a promise). She gets to Vegas and is calling me and texting me nonstop for the first few days. She even was calling me right when my alarm went off in the morning because with the 3 hour time difference, she was still out when I was waking up for work. Says she bought me a bunch of gifts and stuff. Then on the 4th day there she was communicating way less. However when she was, she was acting somewhat normal, aside from a few strange comments. She calls me when my alarm went off on the 5th day, says she misses me, can’t wait to see me. She says goodnight and goes to sleep. About 7 hours later she wakes up and sends me a text saying “you don’t love me.” Then continues to say things like “I’m not good at relationships, I’m not cut out for this. I’m always unsure. I hope we can still be friends if something ever happens.” Then says “I don’t wanna see you all weekend, so probably just tomorrow. I can sleep on the couch.”  Completely in shock, I didn’t know what to do. I won’t lie, I had a small breakdown and was sick all day. Throughout the rest of the day she would call me and say some pretty wicked things like “babe, I only made out with one person, that’s good.” Or “so are you sad we are breaking up when I get back?” I mean this was completely out of nowhere. Later in the day she sobered up a little and we had a long talk on the phone. She claimed she didn’t even remember calling me through the day and that I “shouldn’t listen to her when she’s drunk.” She texts me while I’m sleeping apologizing hardcore and saying how much she loves me and that she is super upset she treated me like that. She even said what she did was “pure evil.” So then she wakes up today and says “I’m coming home!!” but follows it up with another “you don’t love me.” Safe to say there’s been this weird tension over the last couple days. I’m supposed to see her later, so I’m curious as to what’s gonna happen.

I’m suspecting she stopped her meds because she’s made comments previously about how she can’t seem to ever feel drunk while on them. She used to be a HUGE party girl a few years ago and being in Vegas was probably bringing it back out and she probably stopped the meds to feel how she used to. There is no way in hell im going to ask her if she stopped them, but I’m gonna casually work it into tomorrow morning. Like “hey don’t forget to take your pills.”

I’m not really looking for any advice, more of just an open forum for anyone who’s experienced this to just chat about it. I’d like to hear how it played out for you guys and I’ll keep updated on here about her and I. My only worry is that if she did stop them, she’s going to have enjoyed how she felt without them (like her old self) and think she’s fine without them and keep off of them. I’ll have to tread lightly and figure it out.

Hope to hear from others!

I think if this is all caused by stopping prozac then she has a lot more issues than just depression. Like some kind of borderline personality disorder or bi polar .

From an outside point of view reading this story ...

She has gone away on holiday and cheated on you is the bottom line . She must have done something when she was drunk so then she has gone all weird and doesent know how to act towards you.

Whatever her own issues are .. what she isn't actually doing to you is emotional abuse . Playing with your feelings and playing the victim at the same time . You must really love her because you are looking past all of this.

All I can say is I know 100% she is lucky to have you .. whether you are lucky to have her I don't know. From the picture you have painted you don't sound very lucky but I don't know the full story of your whole relationship.

Im really sorry your gf has treated you like crap . That sucks and you must be pretty upset.

You definitely need to chat to her when you are back but if I was you I would seriously reconsider all these future plans you have with her . Love is blind but from an outside eye it seems like she is taking the p**s I Am sorry to say.

No one splits up with someone like that that they are totally in love with . So you have some serious problems in your relationship. I hope you manage to resolve them if that is what you want .

Hi i am sorry to say but i agree with every word that spiritanimal says they are spot on, you may not want to here it but if some one treated me like that i would be long gone, unless she is off her meds, but i hope she is not using them as an excuse, but if she does have a serious problem then only you know her, but do not be a push over, no matter how much you love her, you have a very kind heart and someone out there deserves it, good luck
