Was prescribed Citrolopam(Celexa) for anxiety/depression. Been on 10mg for a month. Still having panic attacks, but for the past week have the feeling of a lump in my throat, but i can eat and drink fine. Ive read about Globus hystericus, and also that anxiety can exaceberate GERD which can also cause this sensation. (Lump in throat, SOB, cough etc.
Seeing my GP today as its been a month and he said then well look at upping the dosage.
Ive been to the ER for my throat/breathing, they felt around and said it seems fine to them. I also recently had a chest CT scan which ruled out any lung abnormalities that could contribute to breathing issues.
Will this pass? Im really trying to be positive but it is very hard with these psychosomatic issues.
Hi Steve, this is typical anxiety,I have it every day, you will find that when you are focusing on something else it miraculously disappears, that's anxiety for you, wishing you well😉
Thanks Trina. It does lessen when im busy, so i guess it is likely just anxiety. I am hoping that it passes, or an increase in my dosage helps to push me out of this anxiety (Been 3 months) I am also in therapy now, so hopefully we can find my way out of anxiety.
Yes we will , I be done it before so I will do it again, all the best Steve😉
Hi Steve,
Just thought i should state I was on 10mg of citalopram for a short time period (before other medical issues came up), which I found ineffective. On the other hand my mother was upped from 20mg to 40mg and it seems to be helping her more so I believe the citalopram may help once the dose is increased. Also for the lump in your throat i agree with other replies it is an unfortunate result of general anxiety and once the panic passes the lump feeling subsides for the moment, however it does like to make the dreaded return.
Hope you feel better and manage to control in the future.

After a month, my GP said we should keep at 10mg for a little longer to see if it works. My lump in throat feeling is super annoying. He put me on some GERD medication to see if that helps, so far, not at all, but only been a week.
I had really bad SOB due to anxiety, but when i got my CT results and my lungs were perfect i was releifed and that passed. I wonder if i need a scope to make my throat go away, which sucks.
My CT scan was lungs, abdomin and pelvis, with contrast, and there was no abnormalities, no malagnincies, so that means from my collar bone down im clear.... so of course my anxiety moves it up above that. Super frustrated. Just want to get back into my normal routine.
Should i go back to my GP? push for an increase to 20mg, ask for an ENT specialist?
Hi Steve, you don't need an entire specialist , I promise you that the lump in your throat is definitely anxiety, and when you get the right dose of meds for you it will go, it is still early days yet for your meds to kick in, you will get up one day and won't have the lump feeling , it will start to come and go, the more you think about it, the more aware of it you are, try to focus on something else ,if you can try doing a jig saw puzzle, if you set one up just keep going to it and find a few pieces, this will get you to think of something else and give you some relief, I know it sounds stupid, but anything is worth a try especially if it works, just hang on in there and see your GP if you feel you need to increase your dose, wishing you well very soon 😊
