My consultant recently recommend myometomyy but said i should take hormone injections for 3 months-which will stop my periods and shrink the fibroids, before going in for surgery.
I am really worried about the side effects and also scared of stopping my period (my periods are regular like clockwork)
Could anyone kindly advise? Have you taken injections to reduce fibroids? what were your side effects? Did you period go back to normal afterwards?

Hi, I had a course of 3 injections to reduce my fibroids size over a period of 3 months. The side effects I experienced were very similar to the menopause.....hot flushes, night sweats. Not pleasant but nothing that I couldn't handle. I got a little bit of stinging around the injection site even though they alternated sides for each injection but all of these I was warned to expect as possible side effects.
As for my periods going back to normal I can't say as mine were all over the place because of the severity of my fibroid symptoms before the I started the course. However, I have spoken to other people who had the same course and their periods went back to normal within a couple of months of stopping the injections.
I'm not sure if this information is of any use to you but I wish you luck whatever you decide.

I wrote a post this week about Zoladex. You can read it in the uterine fibroid forum the under decapeptyl . It was on 3rd March. I have had 10 zoladex over the last 8 years, so would be happy to reply to any other questions you might have.
