Going off Mirtazapine

My Dr. gave me Escitalopram for mild depression. He also gave me 7.5mg of Mirtazapine (remeron) saying it would help me sleep. It actually really does help me sleep. I have gained weight. As long as I am on Mirtazapine I absolutely cannot lose weight so I am going off of it. Along with physical exercise will Melatonin help me sleep while going off Mirtazapine?

coming off it was easy for me. i was on 15mg for 12 years came off in a month. my sleep was messsd up but tale melatonin and benadryl

cone to drug withdrawal on facebook

Thanks kmj523 that was very helpful. I like the benadryl idea.

hi , i take melatonin 10 mg and it helps relax you. available online if you Google it. used Kirkland sleep aid. this works a treat too. Again just type into Google.

Hi,

I would taper off Mirtazapine to avoid possible uncomfortable withdrawal. I was only on 7.5mg went to 3.75mg for two weeks then went off. I had terrible withdrawal including bad nausea. Might want to talk with your doctor about it before coming off it.

Large doses of melatonin can make you feel hung over the next day. It did for me. My doctor recommended small doses of melatonin like 300mcg. Apparently it works better for some. If it doesn’t help you sleep you might consider magnesium.

Okay thanks for your input. I didn’t know it was such a big deal but apparently there are side effects.

okay thank you.

I’ve used Kirklands Sleep Aid in the past and it helped. I believe it’s a generic form of Unisom the OTC Antihistamine sleep aid.
