going to gp tomo armed with food and symptom diary- IBS?

Hello.

Really for the last 2 months I have been experiencing severe symptoms affecting my daily life.

It began with a bloated hard distended abdomen, making me look 6 months pregnant. Then came excruciating sharp pains in my lower tummy so bad I couldnt straighten up. This was relieved by going to the loo.

Then more recently have had awful painful cramps in my upper tummy under my ribs and I can actually feel the pains moving slowly down so that after crawling into bed with a gnawing 'caving' in pain in my 'actual' stomach ( the bit where food first enters) like someone has driven their fist in and is leaving it in there? Anyone id with this?

I crawl into bed and curl up in pain to try to sleep. by morning the bloatedness has gone but then develop sharp pains in my lower tummy, like I'm aware of the whole food journey!

I've noticed from food diary that bread is def a contributer to these pains so today went bread free and was in alot less pain!

Why would I develop a sudden intolerance to wheat? I'm 41 yrs old and its only been in past 2 months, but is following a major traumatic sad event.

I'd love to hear from anyone who can id with these symptoms!

Thanks

Hi How you feeling now

I think you already said about stress being a factor. I lost my sister quite suddenly at the end of august, she was 58yrs old. While i was up north for the funeral etc staying with my nephews, my daughters and grandsons were also there, I too felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. But I think the adrenaline and shock overtook it a bit. I t wasn't until I came home that it got realy bad. Like you say you feel like you are experiencing your food on its whole journey. I then got shingles, so went to the Drs who gave me tablets (yes more) and told him what had happened. He said the shock etc had caused my whole body to go out of sync. Just to try and relax a bit more and not do anything strenuous.

I think this is about right if you feel stressed or jumpy you don't relax the same. therefore your stomach goes into spasms and knots, causing the cramps. I tend to get a hot water bottle take some colpermin and go to bed. I put the tele on as it can be too silent sometimes. This helps me relax a bit and takes my mind of things. As soon as I think of my stomach it goes into overdrive again.

As far as suddenly bread making you feel worse, if you feel better without it ok. I find if I have potatoes two days running I am like that. Bear in mind that bread has yeast in it which can cause stomach probs so not just the wheat.

Keep your chin up and take care.

Thanks for your reply and comments 'cough drop'.

I am up late as now have a cold and cough, runny nose sneezing achey head and behind the eyes with sinuses you know!

Night time is always the worst when in the 1st day or so of a cold. Cant sleep as nose bunged up but it still manages to drip! Propped pillows up to help with cough, inhaled eucalyptus for nose paracetemol etc but really just waiting til I am SO exhausted that sleep will come anyway!

It wont be long!

Sorry to hear of the loss of your sister, at such a young age.

The trauma of bereavment can trigger all sorts of probs cant it?

Doctor gave me anti acid tablets which have helped along with avoiding wheat and as you kindly pointed out I should also check for yeast.

I didnt used to be a food label reader until now with all my bad stomach pains.

Feel my tummy is better at mo but now got this cold which will of course go.

Hopefully the tummy pains will go soon too once avoiding wheat and yeast and taking anti acids.

My dad has a stomach ulcer, do you know if it is hereditary?

Take care.

Hi there

Sorry about you cold, god its always something isn't it. Do you suffer from sinus probs or just when you get a cold. I have COPD and lately my sinusus are playing me up chronic.

Glad you got some anti-acid tabs every little helps. I got colpermin tabs and found them quite helpful.

As far as what is hereditory or not I don't know. My dad suffered from his chest and also had ulcers and was operated on them a few times. I have the chest probs but never ulcers, so far so good. So I think you can inherit some traits but not others. If you have brothers or sisters I think one thing can be passed to one and something else to another. Mind you saying that maybe IBS is instead of ulcers.

Anyway make sure you keep warm and cosy and drink plenty of warming drinks, they help unblock your nose and add a little comfort.

Feel free to post anytime even just for a chat if you feel down.

Take care hope you feel better soon.

Hello again 'cough drop'.

Thanks for your reply.

What is copd?

The cold is much better thanks but still the cough persists especially at night! I found last night that the constant coughing was making my stomach hurt!

I never used to realise how painful acid reflux was until I seem to have it! Doctor gave me those tablets called 'esomeprazole' so he must think its that I have too much acid!

I never realised that heartburn and indigestion could cause you so much stomach pain! I didnt think I had it as thought heartburn was just an uncomfy feeling etc but it feels like someone has driven their fist into my stomach!

I'll browse and post to see if anyone shares this!

Take care.

Hi again

COPD is a lung condition, I have emphasema, there is a whole forum on it under C.

I agree heartburn and indigestion is a killer. I usualy just eat mint sweets as nothing like rennies or gaviston seem to help. Thats why I got the Colpermin tabs from the Drs, they help as well, but at least I can eat mints sweets whenever I want.

I know what you means about coughing, it makes your whole stomach hurt as though you have pulled a muscle. You should try Glycerin Honey and Lemon, I get a cheapo one from Asda (hate having to pay money just cos its a Brand name) and I find it helps. I give it to my grandsons when they keep coughing, especially at night.

Well glad you feel a bit better. Keep your chin up.
