Hey guys does anyone know of a good anti-anxiety mediction that does not have sexual side effects? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
It is mainly the medications that increase the amount of serotonin in the brain that are the first choice for treating anxiety disorders, unfortunately they are the ones that are most likely to cause problems with your sex life.
You could try Mirtazapine with Lorazepam when your anxiety is really bad.
Your doctor will advise you on when to take them and how much to take.
Lorazepam can be addictive and tolerance will quickly develop if you take them every day.
Mirtazapine can be taken every day but can take a few weeks to be fully effective.
Thank you for your suggestion. I think I tried Mirtazapine in the past and it was not very effective. Then again I have tried so many over the years I really forget the effectiveness/lack of with most of them. Except Lexapro of course, which I found wonderful in calming anxiety but severe sexual side effects which I just couldn't tolerate.Also where I come from doctors lock up Lorazepam like its some kind of heroin so they wont give more than 10 days supply! The search goes on!!
I also ment to mention that so some people find psychotherapy helpful.
I take medication but a therapist also helped me.
Have you tried tianeptine? Otherwise the addition of bupropion to any SSRI should help with the sexual side effects.
I actually trained as a psychotherapist for a couple of years. Didn't really help my own condition! Apparently CBT is one of the best talk therapys for GAD, but I live in a non-english speaking country so thats a non-runner at the moment.
Thanks for your suggestion.I have never heard of Tianeptine before until you mentioned it. I googled it and found it may be of interest to me. I live in south east Asia so I don't know how easy/difficult to get it here.Do you know much about it/its effectiveness? Or a trusted websie that I could purchase it on?
