Yay!! Took my very first major excursion outside to the grocery store. I walked (with cane) for nearly an hour. It felt great to be outside in the fresh air, feeling proud of myself. Now if only I can get a decent nights sleep. Baby steps.

Congratulations. Feels great to get out doesn't it. Each step, baby or not feels like an achievement and a decent nights sleep will come sooner or later. Onwards and upwards.
Yes I'm from the U.S. and this is the only forum I was able to find where any discussion of hip replacement recovery was available. And I thank everyone for responding to my posts. Pretty sad that there is no forum here in the States where one can get advice and not feel alone with my recovery.
Yes it is a shame , but we are here for you

Hi Susan
well done and wishing you good nights sleep, my op is tomorow....how many days post op are you?
Thanks Mary, no matter where we're from we all have one thing in common, replaced hips and recovery advice and support and boy am I grateful .
I agree , this forum had been a great help
Well done you!
I am still doing well tho cane- less in Exeter last nite turned right into an icy cold blast that made me wobble and went straight to hip. Scary but OK.
This healing going well but gonna take time!

I'm 20 days post Op now. Good luck tomorrow. I think what I found most amazing was after years of horrible hip pain standing up hours after my surgery and having that joint pain 100% gone. Now it's just recovery from the after effects of the surgery which is a challenge but I know I will get better.
Thanks Mic
It felt great to be outside. Now with that added confidence I will make it a daily event, even if to walk around my neighborhood for a much time as my leg will let me . My motivation and confidence just went up 10 fold.
Four weeks after (revision) op I have been out walking the last few days but feel exhausted and sometimes hurting afterwards. I'm taking it easy and trying to pace myself - not so easy this week with lively grandchildren wanting me to run around with them, making me laugh and clamouring for icecream...I think afternoon naps are the answer.
I'm taking it easy right now, I'm waiting to see what my thigh muscles have in store for me later haha. I wonder if I will be paying the piper later this evening.
Hi Susan,
Congratulations on your first walk outside of the house!!! Feels good dosn't it? I am 12 weeks post of THR. Baby steps is right..... You will feel the difference every 5 days or so. I stumbled across this forum also and am happy to have found it. I also belong to a forum on facebook called "Total Hip Replacement Forum". It is also a great place for information. I love this forum and find it much more personal though. Ginny USA NJ
Complimenti!!!!! Good for you!
My surgery was on Jan 27th.... sleeping is far better than the first month, but not yet what would call normal....
My op was Jan 22nd . After longing to sleep on my side again I find it uncomfortable now , all my muscles seem to ache overnight . Much better in the day though
