Good news

Hello everyone.  I thought I would share some good news with you all.  I had my first tkr 9 weeks ago. Had the second one one week ago.  I was cycling 6 klms on road at 7 weeks and bend and stretch really good. However, I still felt that I had a long way to go when I went in for my second knee.

second one went really well again and I had full extension and bend after 6 days. Mind you, I think the pain was worse for the second one.  Now for the interesting part. Whilst concentrating on my new knee, I had completely forgotten about the pain and stiffness in my first knee.  Then I realised that it had strengthened really well and had no pain at all.  It just goes to show that a lot of this stuff is in the mind. I was so busy worrying about my latest op. That I had forgotten everything else.  Now for my goal of dancing at my granddaughters 21st. On 20th June.   Good luck to everyone and thanks for your support during both operations.

well done sue and im sure that with determination you WILL be dancing at the party. Your cert doing better than me im 12 weeks and still struggling with horrendous stiffness but il get there. good luck and enjoy the party x

An inspiration. Well done on your very good news.

Oh my goodness you are doing so well.

Thanks for sharing some good news.

Take care and keep in touch.

Happy Dancing!!

Love Sarah xxx

Well done sue you are an inspiration to us all x

Congratulations sueoz - well done.  I am awaiting TKR's on both knees and am always curious about the ages of forum contributors.  I am 76 yrs, pretty fit, have a positive and dertermined outlook and am very active but I can't help but think that I cannot expect to get such quick results as someone much younger.  Don't want to br disappointed.

incidentally, have you noticed that it seems to be mainly women who respond.  Are we more willing to share or what..?

Well firstly you must be super hero. The thought of a surgery so close to the  first one ouch,  but you are obviously a quick healer and no doubt you will reach tour goals.  Very well done.  Jackie

Good luck.....

Just remember, dancing should be limited to the floor and not on tabletop.

Excellent!  Well done!  I'm 14 weeks and riding my bike on the road and walking etc.  I am 56 years old.  I'm sure this gets tougher as people age.  The pain etc I've gone thru sure wasn't in my mind.  Prior too this surgery I had broken 9 ribs, my collarbone and had a punctured lung.   Recovering from that wasn't easy. The knee surgery recovery has been harder.  Anyway,  have a great time and I sincerely hope things continue to go well for you!

hi sky im 56 as well and nearly 12 weeks post op and I swear ive never known owt like this!!!! im still exhausted im not driving fully and only today I managed to do a full rotation on my static bike and im fed up with people asking me when will I be driving again and when will you be back at work? ?? and isnt it takin you a long time to recover GRRR it makes me soo cross its as if they dont believe what im going through!!!!!!

Hi Andrea. People really DONT know...  !  I wish there was a way to show them for a day what it was like.  When I got the spinal, I realized what it would be like to be a paraplegic and I was floored at even a few hours of no leg use (let alone the attending problems).   It is hard to be patient with people when you are doing your very best to be patient with yourself and the pain/frustration. Hang in there.. in 20 years you will laugh at this ha ha...

I hope your right lol x

Hi Margaret,  I am 70.  In fact I had my 70th birthday in hospital.   Yes I have noticed that there are more women than men on the forum but then I guess as we live longer, we probably have more of this operation.   You will be fine. I think the main thing, is to keep as fit as you can, right up to the last minute of the operation.   Good luck.

Hi OFG don't rain on my parade. I will be on that table if at all possible.

Hi sky,  I hope I didn't insinuate that the pain we are going through is in the mind.  I meant to point out that focusing on the pain is perhaps unproductive.  Just an opinion.

Send vid of table dance!

Go for it.......just have a soft and safe landing spot. I want a picture of that. I envy you getting to the wedding. We are going to have to miss our son's wedding the qeth of June. Its 1500 mi. away and just too much for both of us. I couldn't stand to sit on a plane 4 hrs with no knee in my leg and my wifes Parkinson's is at the stage she can barely make it to the Dr's appointments. Fortunately our other 3 kids will make it and her brother is setting up some type of streaming video. There will undoubtably be a few tears in both locations. Enjoy the wedding and the dancing. We'll all drink a toast to your happiness.

Great news Sue, your really are an inspiration! Until you popped up, I thought I was doing better than most. There must be something in the water in Oz. Maybe we should organise charter flights from o'seas - Group TKR's in Aussie Hospitals!

Keep up the good work, and have a fabulous party - you deserve it!

Denise from Oz

Great that you have kept your sense of humour.  More than my granddaughter would do if she saw that you thought she was getting married.  It's actually her 21st. Birthday.  So sad that you will miss your wedding.  Enjoy the video stream, it's not the same as being there but must be the next best thing.  Keep smiling.  Sue

Hi Denise,  yes I must say that most of the sadder stories have been outside Australia.  I belong to a bowling club where, as you can imagine, tkr's are reasonably common.  Although I would be in the upper echelon of recoveries,  most bowlers seem to recover quite well.   Maybe it's because we are very active oldies.  I am 70, had my seventieth in hospital last week, and I cycle around 80klms every week. This keeps the old legs strong as well.

nice to hear of other success stories.  Keep smiling.   Sue
