Wow, I'm sorry to hear that, but have you been seen by a
doctor yet? I was seeing the same thing back in May of
this year then by the ending of the month I started to bleed,
so I thought it was my period....IT WASN'T. Then as soon as
June hits the bleeding got heavier to the point where I was
using a pack of pads and tampons a day. I usually have heavy
periods but it was getting out of hand. Then one morning
I woke with a bloody bed, swollen stomach, fever, and clots
dropping out of me like someone turned on the faucet. So my
mom called the ambulance and when they got here they said
I was hemorrhaging. They rushed me to the hospital and within a few hours

button. Anyway I wasn't in the hospital for no more than 12hrs
before they said they had to do emergency surgery because
I had a 32cm dermoid cyst and it was wrapped around my
ovary so tight and that's what was causing me to hemorrhage.
So try and get checked because all they do is grow. I mean
from what they said due to the size I had they concluded
my cyst has been growing for at least a year. It's amazing what
a woman's body goes through, smh. Anyway please keep an eye
on it and I hope everything goes well for you.
If this is definitely a dermoid cyst then it won't resolve on its own and will need to be surgically removed. Unfortunately, the ovary is far too often removed along with the cyst and that is SELDOM necessary if you have a surgeon with good cystectomy skills. We need all our female / "reproductive" parts (ovaries, tubes, uterus) our whole lives for good health. Removal of any part (even one ovary) can disrupt the endocrine system and wreak havoc on natural aging and health. The uterus, in addition to interacting with the ovaries for proper hormone / endocrine function, has anatomical and sexual functions.

Why hasn't your Dr. scheduled surgery, the size is small so laproscopic removal should be an option but with unresolved bleeding and pain ovarian torsion could the cause.
I agree with aged-too-fast that you need a specialist who will take the time to disect the tumor from the ovary and not just take the ovary, like it's a disposable organ.
What has your Dr. said. If wait and see, get a second opinion. Have you seen a GP or Gynecologist? Definitely need a Gynecologist at this point. Dermoids can grow very quickly sometimes and just read another woman's post who suddenly started hemorrhaging because of hers and needed emergency surgery. Better to get this done now while it's still relatively small.
Thank you for your info.I believe in what you have written. I am 64 My knowledge is just common. I strongly believe in the body being whole. I am struggling with yes or no to a hysterectomy and salpingo-oophorectomy for my dermoid cyst on one of my ovaries the right handside one.I would very much like to hear from anyone about my concern. My operation is for the 30th of August 2016 (next Tuesday). I am not in pain at all but was told that the cyst is the size of a baby's head. I have asked the doctor to perform a bikini cut and remove only the cyst and maybe with the ovarie but he is reluctant to do a sub-amblical midline laparotomy. I am thinking of cancelling the operation if he dose not agree to my request. I do not know if I am doing the right thing. I have a knee problem apart from that I am quite healthy no health problems or medications stronger than paracetamol. Apprfeciate your replies

I did not have dermoid but 2 large (baby's head size cysts) one on each ovary. Due to the size and severe endometriosis my surgeon chose a vertical incision from the belly button down. So glad he did because he was able to explore and also found one kidney compromised by endometrial tissue. He was able to restore full kidney function and remove most of the endometrial tissue that was giving me so much problem.
If you are concerned about recovery the first couple weeks were slow moving but by the third week I felt stronger and was able to run short errands. Scar is a ghost white line barely noticeable. I forget it's there most of the time.
I would strongly urge you to proceed with the surgery. A tumor of that size you may not have pain from but as it has grown you have become accustomed to it. I did not even realize how affected I was until after surgery. My energy level returned, over 10 lbs of foreign matter removed, stomach eventually flattened, etc.
Dermoids tend to continue to grow and better to get it out before it causes complications.
If you can, have a consult with another surgeon and get his approach. It might be more aligned with your wishes.
