Got dressing off wound

I have been a bit worried about my wound for that last couple of days.

it has been 2 weeks today since my THR on my left hip, so I went to the doctor to get the dressing removed this morning and YAY, it is all healing up nicely. Just one problem. I never asked him about if it would be ok to shower now, he said I can give it a clean with some warm water, but not sure about showering. Do any of you guys know what I would be best off doing??

Not sure. Give the docs a ring and ask the receptionist.  The doc will ring with the answer or relay it to the receptionist

U will be able to have a shower has long has u just use water on the wound no soap and pat the wound dry

I'd guess that if he said "give it a clean with some warm water", he didn't mean have a shower, best ask for clarification.

At two weeks when mine was removed the nurse said it was fine to shower . I did not put any soap on it tho just ran warm water over it gently as it is quite tender then put bio oil on it ( vit E and lavender in bio oil for scars ) .

hi julie,

if the scar is closed I think you can take a shower ...

after 1st THR I had to wait until staples were removed to take a shower and after 2nd THR, 6 months later, same surgeon, same hospital (same bed !!!) I was taken to the shower on 2nd day post op .... go figure !!

just make sure that someone is with you or close to you okay ?

let us know how you are getting on

big warm hug

Hi Julie, If the wound is clean and dry, you should be safe having a shower. Take care, and pat it dry afterwards with something v clean.

Thanks for all the advice. I will be putting a new dressing on when I shower now. Think it will prob be for the best.

Cheers. J 😀😞

If you have any doubts cling wrap, or glad wrap, start below cut, and wrap leg, overlapping as you go upwards past cuts, probably husband or partner doing it rather than yourself, works wonders for keeping you dry, last couple of wraps have to be pretty tight to keep you completly dry otherwise water will creep in, only sensible way to get out afterwards is just cut the whole thing away carefully, uses an awful lot of cling wrap, so need giant roll.

First time I was wrapped was after my hysterectomy, worked wonders keeping my dry, and lots of laughter from the nurses doing the wrapping.
