My son had total hip replacement at 18 filling a total slipped upper femeral epythies he was pain free for 6 years now 24
Has any one experience thigh pain groin pain a long while after he has had to take 2 weeks off work as so bad and is getting very low as our Gp says cant see any fractures on xray so why pain she wont refer him back to rnoh Stanmore . He saw doctor night before slip in 2005 and was told knee thigh hip pain was growing pains sorry I don't trust my Gp as this is too specialist sorry just need to rant 😒
You are right to rant - your GP is not an orthopaedic specialist and was wrong before . Your son is not a 'typical' hip replacement patient either . Epiphyseal fractures are rare , especially at 18 - he really needs a scan etc to see what's going on. I would insist on seeing an orthopaedic consultant and remind GP he was wrong before - if he won't then personally I'd see one privately ( about £1-200) but appreciate that's not possible for some - Good luck with it all and let us know what happens xxxx

bu as you say a gp is not a specialist and this is very complex as he spent from 2006-2010 in a wheelchair as had developed avascular necrosis and they had pinned twice but was doing more damage than good . I cant get through to her how it is effecting him at moment in the phone message she wants to do a telephone consultation with him like that going to help he is over 18 so wont discuss with me

I agree with Bini ... GP is not a specialist and needs to refer your son to an orthopedic surgeon ...

We have doctors again this afternoon as he is now covered in bright punk spots over his arms and trunk and blood when going to toilet can things actually get any worse . I am going to insist he is refered back RNOH In Stanmore even if its just to put mind at rest . Thanks for reply .

Cannot believe it , he doesn't do things by half last time it was hip kidney stones septacemia . I will let you know how he gets on thanks
Seen gp sending him for physio but at least if physio thinks its hip he will get referred I asked her to send xrays to Stanmore as they can compare to last xrays they took after hr . His other problem could be one of many things si starting with full bloods and go from there . Feels like a never ending journey but at least we got a quick appointment today so now just a waiting game .

Jaqs, x-rays only show bones. Soft tissue injuries won't show up on them. If he has injured a muscle, tendon, ligament or other soft tissue, he'll need a diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and/or MRI to see what's wrong. If the x-rays are fine, that just means no problems with his bones, but there are many other kinds of tissues that can be injured in the thigh and groin.
Bini as you are just saying l saw a gp the other day who l did not like tbh as he said l should not be in any pain at this stage making me feel like a bit of a fraud then went through my pain meds and made me feel like l was wrong with them to. Then he said why did you get OA so young!!! Eh l am not the doctor how would l know this and he is wring as l am not so young in comparison to a lot of the people l have met on here. I came out feeling worse than l did when l went in he then gave me a lecture about make sure l am not taking more painkillers than l should. I said l know this as my husband work with in pharma and knows about tablets and side affects. He said lets try you off one of your painkillers so l said fine. He said stop taking your oxy. I alread had l was only taking 1 a day if needed. And he said keep you on tramadol an co-codamol. Thats fine l said as l have been starting to taper myself of tramadol and only take 4 at the most as compaired to 8 l used to take. He then said the stupidist thing if your in pain take up to 8 tramadol a day.......wait did you just not lecture me aby taking to much now you are saying take more. He then said are you needing tramadol. I said no l got a box on friday but will run out of co-codamol soon he said ok and handed me a prescription of what l thought was co-codamol until l was in my car it was for tramadol l now have 200 tramadol and hardly any co-codamol so l had to phone up to get more. I honestly don't think some of them have a clue. I felt l was wrong for being in pain still at times. When really as a gp he has little to no experiance on hip replacement as its the opposite from which my surgeon told me.
Best thing that came out it was l got xrayed everywhere which l need done for to be sure my knee's are ok and my 2 hips are still in place. So l have very little faith in some gp's

Annie yes I said to GP and between that and her thinking maybe sciatica he is being refered to physio . At least I know if they have slightest suspicion of anything else he will get referred for more tests . He is fed up as now being tested for crohns disease as well.
She is trying to blame pain on fact he gets a bus to work a bummpy ride she says can cause pain so I pointed out to her if the doctor who saw him night before the total slip had had him xrayed he would been treated before went that far that's when she agreed to send xrays to Stanmore if Mr nejad thinks anything wrong he will insist on scans .

I know, Laura ... I feel like an old whining woman - or an indiot when I repeat questions because I didn't get an answer ... I can't help but compare them to the ones I had in Los Angeles - well, they were internists designated
as Primary Care Physicians - but then I didn'se issues either -
I might not being fair here - overcrowded waiting rooms, budget cuts, etc ...

Hi Jaqs, You must be pulling your hair out. Bad enough when it's ypurself, can't imagine if it was one of my kids! The RNOH was the only place I got any real help. They have been fantastic. Good luck with everything. Sending all my good wishes and thoughts.

Lots of hugs and good wishes for your son and you ... (my daughter suffered a bad concussion this spring and it was excruciating to see her in such pain and uncertainty about recovering). So I understand a little of what you must be feeling.
