Hi I was meant to go into hospital on the 22nd Aug. For a trial in ketamine infusions . As after back surgery I was left with nerve damaged. And a drop foot . Have suffered chronic pain for 3years. My pain specialist phoned me at home to say my go will not allow me the treatment . And after a half hour heated conversation with my gp. My pain specialist said he is to have a meeting next week with the disciplinary board at hospital . Against my gp. Can they override my gp.decision
If your GP still refuses to let you have ketamine infusions after the hospital meeting, make a complaint on the grounds that you are not being given adequate care to rectify a serious mistake. It is your human right to receive proper care and to have appropriate remedial treatment when errors have been made. It is your taxes that are going towards maintaining the NHS which has failed you. It may be necessary to change your doctor.
what grounds are they denying you for?? insurance or do they simply not think it will be of any use and cause further complications?
Hi pipa , thankyou for your advice , I have already started to look for a new doctor . But my pain specialist has told me to hold of ,until he has this meeting. My doctors excuse is because I'm on a lot of prescription drugs. And everything I have had had not worked so far. That's exactly why I'm getting offered this trial. So depending on the outcome ,will depend on my next move . But regardless ,I will definitely change doctors. Thankyou for your advice . Am taking it very serious . Just cant get my head around him refusing not just my pain specialist, but his superior professor . Who I had an hour meeting with . So angry 😠xxx
Hi Tara. No this doctor of mine is just playing for with my life. He is very arrogant . There are no real reason . Except that I'm on a lot of medication..So I will change doctors soon . Thankyou for your reply . Fiona xxx
Hi pippa. Sorry I left a reply on tara,s page by mistake . Hope you can still see it . Still learning on here . Xx
I don’t think you have anything to lose b trying ketamine infusions since nothing else has worked. I think your GP is very remiss in denying you a treatment that you haven’t even tried yet. He will only know the outcome once you have tried it.
I agree pippa that's why my consultant who I have had for over 3years . Is taking my doctor to a disciplinary hearing .
Why have specialist if they are not allowed to do their job . The mind boggles . Xx
Maybe it’s about saving the NHS money.
I thought that to pippa ,I asked my consultant if my gp was concerned that it would cost his practice money.
But my consultant told him as its done in hospital the cost is picked up from them.
So it wouldn't come out of his practice money.
I think he is just a very arrogant gp. 😢
Some doctors are like that; so frustrating!
