Grateful! 11 days post op

I have to say getting my right hip replaced was the best decision after being in the last phase of deterioration the last 6 months. I put off surgery as my brother passed recently and I don't think I could have managed with my heart broken. I am brand new now and look forward to the future! I do have to say pain pills make me sooo ill. So its 2 325 mg aspirin twice daily and 2 tylenol in the afternoon. Physical Therapy and doing daily chores carefully are helping me heal. ๐Ÿ’

I am glad for you. You are obviously in america therefore probably had an anterior THR, doing PT already wow. I found the pain pills were not good but luckily I have not had any pain since op and only took paracetamol (tylenol) as a precaution for a few days.

Good luck for the future and I hope you continue with a great recovery.

so pleased your hip surgery has worked out well ,ive had mine done since 31st January only pain I'm getting is when in bed and  lay on that side ,I'm waiting to have other hip replaced in june

Sorry to hear of your brother passing very sad.  Great news you are doing well and it is a new lease of life when you get new hip.  I am 8 weeks post op and cannot believe how much I am doing now I was in so much pain before op could hardly walk and now I'm doing everything as normal.  Every day you'll feel better I've not had pain killers since week 3 so very happy ๐Ÿ˜Š best of luck to you for the future

I'm 10 weeks in and feel awful what's your secret?

So pleased that you are doing well. Wishing you all the best, Judith

Hello June

Great to hear you are doing so well after such sadness.  PT helps tremendously as well as good diet.  Take the pain pills as long as you need them and slowly come off them.  You will know when he time is right but they are there to help you recover from traumatic surgery.

All the best.

Hi Penny ,

I had an anterolateral hip replacement where no muscles are cut. I am surprised myself I am so mindful about keeping the 90 degree bend rule! I try to get up every 45 minutes to walk about a bit. I don't have stitches, My incision is glued with some sort of clear wrap on it. I hope you feel better. 10 weeks seems long time.

Hi Penny, you should feel pretty good after 10 weeks. What problems do you have?

Hi ya

I'm so tired all the time, my right op leg is 1.5 cm longer as my pelvis is apparently out this is hurting my bad I can't move my knee this got injured during the operation apparently my hip is extremely stiff so bending is difficult. I'm advised not to drive because of my knee. Can everyone move there operated knee normally? My op leg seems to go outward now when I stand my surgeon says he had to put the wrong size into my hip this I think has caused my knee to move around the cap he also said my muscles now need to stretch to fit the extra length my thigh muscles have deteriorated my glutes have dropped... I still have to use a crutch I can't get in and out of the car well as a passenger ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Good Morning Jen โ˜บ

Thank you for your kind words. Yes I live in Tracy, California about 60 miles east from San Francisco in the Central Valley. Yes anterior THR. I walked a bit too much yesterday so now going to take a rest day! You sound like you are doing well also! One day at a time x

June, I went and researched the anterolateral approach and it looks like the best approach. No wonder you are doing so well. When I get my other hip done I will search out a surgeon who does it.

Were you put completely out or was it done with a spinal block?

Thanks for sharing.

I can imagine have a leg discrepancy must be a major problem for you. What on earth happened in your operation to damage your knee? It sounds like the surgeon had problems with the op. I must admit I am rubbish at getting in and out of cars and I donโ€™t have the problems you have.

Good Afternoon Jodi,

I had General anaesthesia out like a light! The reason for this is because 35 years ago I had Harrington Rod surgery on my spine from a car accident. Never had a problem. May have been a contributor to the Osteoarthritis in my hip.

Hope you find a surgeon who performs this kind of surgery!

Keep us updated!

Hi ptolemy,

When you get in the car do you have a plastic bag on the seat, it makes it easier to swivel around.

Remember you're not alone. Stay positive
