Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Graves and at the moment I'm really struggling
Free T4 >100
Free T3 is 36.5, but was 46 when I was diagnosed
TSH undetected
My doctor was put me on 40mg Carbimazole per day for the thyroid and 120mg of Propranolol per day for my heart palpitations which are 40mg 3 times a day
I suffer from insomnia, heat intolerance, shaking, no energy, weakness and anxiety. I really feel as if I am losing the plot. Please someone tell me it will get better. I have been off my work for 2wks now and due to go back on Thursday, but I didn't think I can
It sounds like you must have had it for a while before your symptoms became intolerable and you were diagnosed. I was fortunate to be diagnosed early before my values got extremely high and only had to take 10 mg of Methimazole (same as Carbimazole in your country). However, while my Free T3 and Free T4 immediately normalized in the middle of the range when I started my med, my TSH would not rise from 0 for two years until I stared adding supplements, especially Regular L-Carnitine, 3,000 mg (TSH rose from 0 to 0.12), then vitamin D3 gelcaps, initially 5,000 IU then tapered to 1,000 IU daily, Magnesium 200 mg. Then I added Acetyl-L-Carnitine to all the other supplements and my TSH shot right up and my Frees fell to bottom of range. The Acetyl requires that a person be extremely careful with it because it works so fast in raising TSH that a lot of people have become HYPO after taking it. It requires frequent monitoring of blood values (at least every 3 to 4 weeks) and adjustments of both meds and carnitine. I let my doc adjust my Meds dose and I adjusted the supplements. There are also other natural supplements that are helpful. When you have this disease, it helps if you do a lot of research to understand it.
Hi Katie, i had the same thing. It is awful, really awful but you will get better. It takes a few weeks for the carbimazole to work and i had awful side effects but keep with it. Aĺl your symptoms are classic so.just go with it and dont get stressed, it is frightening. I was on medication for 18 mths (i did block and replace 40 mg carb and 100mg levothyroxine, betablockers, bp meds, anxiety meds. I won't lie it was tough and i felt i would never be well. However it will all settle down.
I am really well now as are other friends who had it.
Try and sleep, dont get stressed it will get better. There is some great support on here. Xxx
Yes I did have it for a while, it was until the tremors got ready bad that I went to the Doctor, he took one look at me and told me what it was as my eyes where starting to bulge as well, but obviously had to do bloods to get it verified. I am starting to do some research, but it all seems to be getting on top of me at the moment with all the symptoms. Will certainly have a look at the supplement option, thank you
wow your thyroid level really high! free t4 100 and free t3 36.5 you need very good thyroid specialist .my free t3 level was 30 I was diagnosed 2008 and first symptoms was hand tremor ....good luck ...
Graves’ disease is a type of autoimmune problem that causes the thyroid gland to produce too much thyroid hormone, which is called hyperthyroidism. Graves’ disease is often the underlying cause of hyperthyroidism.
