Just signed up although I have been reading this site for sometime! I would just like to thank everyone here, I'm 32 and just had a double hip replacement 4 weeks ago. I was so nervous before but this page helped me understand and prepare and now after, all those question you "mean" to ask but forget are found here. You often worry if your recovering fine and worry at the slightest illregular feeling but a look on here helps a lot! So thanks to all forum members for making a difficult time that little easier
So glad you are getting on as well as you are! Double boy- are you brave!!!

Congrats and good luck in recovery. Ive had two replaced in the past six months. Just started back to work. Life is good again..no pain.
Thank you and everyone says that but I tell you my surgeon did give me a choice, the fact is I hate hospitals not for the op or nurses etc just the fact it's not home, being woken up for HR and meals at there times so it was an easy choice in that aspect! On the day I was sitting in the anathemastist area and my surgeon came thru and said he could only do one and I tell you at that point I was over the moon, just as I came to terms pops back and says it's ok we can do the two now! The first few days were hard but I tell you I'm so glad I got both done at once and would recommend it as long as ur ready and your body is ready to really push.

Good to hear you had both done together, best way I think. I had both mine done in 2001 uncemented as I presume your are at such a young age. It is a bit difficult at first but you will walk straight and upright and not limping like so many who have only one done. Don't rush things but make sure you do your exercises and dont twist when you turn around. Good luck.
thank you and that's what I've found like a few threads on here mention, they don't prepare you for the full story and I often find I'm coming up with question and this is a great source!

thank you, it is strange being able to walk with out the hobble to one side and having only strengh to walk to the car and back. It took three years to diagnose so I've sadly been out of work for two so I hopefully recovery allowing can't wait to get back into work! It's been a long painful two years and that's only just day time tv!

Wow! Double at 32, hope your recovery is going well. You're correct about this site and the helpful people.
Thank you, and I agree, so glad I had both done at once. It's hard but worth the outcome I hope, I keep being told I'm trying to run before I can walk after only 4 weeks I feel I should be fine I need to keep telling myself how major of an operation it was! I hope your hips are still serving you well!
Kind regards
thank you, everyone is always 32! And first it was such a downer think I was so young but after research it's more and more common in young people that what people think. Sadly though it really was no choice and needed done. This site and the people have been an amazing support even if the never knew it.
kind regards
You are an inspiration! 32 and a double? Goodness me I admire you greatly and wish you all the very best for a great recovery! I have nothing to add as I'm 48 and only had one done 18 weeks ago, the biggest kick I got was walking past a shop window at 12 weeks post op and not believing that it was me in the reflection walking straight for the first time in years!! Wishing you a great recovery x
+4 wks is no time whatsoever! You've had DOUBLE major surgery. Please don't try to progress too quickly: it will most definitely set you back.
Listen carefully to your body's needs and respect them. Don't try to achieve external, supposed goals. Be ever so gentle and aware of your individual requirements.

Just do what your body tells you, you can do. Hardest thing is sleeping on your back with a cushion between your knees. Mine are 13 years old and absolutely perfect so far but I am still careful not to cross my legs. I was involved in a car crash, and I also fell and broke my leg in two places about six years ago and the hips were not affected at all. An amazing op.
Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad your on your way to full recover and hope you don't need the other one done soon! I'm looking forward to that feeling! I think my biggest joy will come from when I can get in and out of a car properly again. I've had to park miles away or door to a end because if some parks to close I would be stuck! As of the need of a fully open door and pain that left finger marks in my steering wheel just to lift my legs in. I hope your recovery continues well.
kind regards
i agree fully! One of the worst parts is having to sleep on your back! It's enough to drive you insane. I'm very much a side sleeper and miss it so much, nights are long just now I've never really crossed my legs so I'm ok at that end just I usaly cross my ankles but hopefully at the 6 month mark and that should be fine! It's nice to see long term THR patients still use this site and not just newbies to the club
kind regards
thank you for your supportive words and advice and I need to keep telling myself it's only been 4 weeks!
Kind regards
How do Badger, where's that name from ha.
Your very young compared to most of us old codgers,I'm 65! So you should recover quicker than most of us..having both done will be harder to recover from, but the main thing is it's done in one go,I'm now facing the daunting prospect of a 2nd hip op within one year..
Most folks on here will tell you that compared to putting up with years of joint pain and no life, those first 6-12 weeks of pain and sleep deprivation are worth it..
Six months from now it should all seem a distant memory..
thanks for your kind words,it's good to compare stories with each other, good and bad!
Wish you a speedy recovery, and try to stay positive which I found helped my recovery.
ONE DRAWBACK.......not a big one but going through Security at airports. Bells ring and get frisked every time.
So glad you found us! Respect to you for having a double THR and wish you all the best for your recovery. I'm 8 weeks post revision of RTHR. Had first THRS 20 years ago so they have lasted me well. Currently the left one is still going strong. I had a new lease of life after the original ops and am hoping for the same this time. A day at a time is our motto and someone is always here for you if you have questions or get a bit down about things.
All the very best for your recovery.
