Thats it then, LTHR done and dusted just 4 hours over a week ago so guess I ought to put a bit on here. It all went well damage was fairly extensive so I was in theatre just over two hours on a general and return to ward and finally getting out of bed were perhaps a little slow. I have a great big waterproof, yes I can shower, dressing on from just below the top of my hip round my bum and down my thigh to about 6 inches below the ball joint. It comes off next Friday by which time the stitches should be gone, it's a biggie. Pain hasn't been a problem, I went in on gabapentin and I came out on gabapentin, they tried me on super pain killers on Saturday Sunday and I promptly carpeted the bed both times so i didn't have any more really didn't need em. Out of bed onto the frame and a bit of walking on Sunday, onto sticks on Monday, no more bottles, just missed the boat for discharge  on Monday...Pharmacy grrr!.....and maybe just a little early anyway. Out on Tuesday afternoon on sticks and going nicely, increasing my walking slowly, sleeping a lot, mostly not at nights, doing my exercises, it has not been too bad

Comments, the chemicals they pump into you in hospital linger for some time, use of antibiotics is prolific and in my case in the backs of my hands, painful, my leg is well blown up  sinking slowly, pain levels are lower than I expected and above all it's done, I am now level, superb job by the consultant I was an inch out of kilter, and softly softly onward and upward.

My first real UK hospital experience, it's been a life changer!

Hi Gromit .... congratulations .. it seems that you are doing very well - I am so happy for you ... thank you for sharing your inspiring story  - have a good night - big hug

Good news gromit - the dose of antibiotics you are given in hospital must be very strong - my urine smelt for almost two weeks from the three doses I was given post op.

Pain wise yes I have been pleasently surprised - it's more of a deep ache (in the backside!).

All sounds positive - good stuff.

well done grommit, to help with the swelling use a packet of frozen peas wrapped in a towel ..... xx

not problematical thanks gillcat just noticeable, I guess it will go in due course though I have just ordered a kilo of birds eye petis pois from Tesco....... would it be beneficial to freeze my knee?

like somebody hit you in the thigh with a hammer? No I was expecting a lot more pain and that old grinding needling ache has gone.

Re the chemicals and all I was still a bit 'floaty' at times even yesterday.

They thought I had a chest infection, I had a cough, I vomited chick pea curry which I stupidly ate post op and some bits went astray...even more anti biotics, the backs of my hands are a mess

So glad you are doing so well! I too benefit from Gabapentin and it works better for me than opiates. Keep up your good work and you will see the other side of this soon!

Thanks for sharing,

Dawn, USA

Great news gromit to hear you are out on the other side -it's all good from here on

Just take it easy and take your pain meds

Have a good night - I am 2 weeks and 2 days post op and doing great but night time is worst for me

Just go with the flow - thank goodness for TV and iPad

Kind wishes Linda x💞

Fair play Gromit u speak as it is. I hope u are improving day by day. This forum has given me so much positivity ahead of my upcoming op. The hospitals give u the strong meds to cope in the early days after the op. I'm on this forum to help me to prepare for what's in store for me & I'm reading positivity all the way. Roll on my op. I'll be 50 in January 2016 & looking forward to a new life pain free.
