I continue to eperience groin pain 15 months post total hip replacement. My surgeon ordered x-rays of the hip following my 12 month appointment. Everything looks good on the film but I still have pain especially during and after excercise. I am 64, lean and it but frustrated. Does anyone else have this issue? If so any suggestions?
Does it feel like pinching????? I have that at times.
It does somewhat. It hurts when I lift my leg to get dressed or during Yoga class. How long ago did you have your hip surgery?
!0 months, and I bent my leg putting on my sock and it starts pinching again...Will we ever be totally healed, I see my Dr. in May and will ask him....
10 months March 5th.....
I sure hope so Loral. My surgeon does not give me any information like, don't worry, the pain will subside in time. He said that I needed to excercise it more but I am a gym rat and workout 4 to 6 days per week doing spinning, body pump and yoga. So frustrated right now.
My replacement was also anterior.
Mine two, and my scar is 3" long but sunk in...ugh
Go see another surgeon Thats what i did get second even third opinions
Jackie
Thinking about that but I interviewed 3 surgeons before my surgery and my guy is the best in my neck of the woods.
What did you learn when you got other opinions?
Hi jane,
Wow, I looked at your profile and you really like your body to work ...good for you -
I don't what I can tell you that you don't know - You know your body and what it can do ... Only thing I would say is perhaps to ease up a bit when it hurts? it sounds a bit as if those muscles are over-used and over-stretched ....
Big warm hug

Jane, I am 55 and a year and one week post op. I get an ache in my groin usually when I wake up which goes away once I've exercised- my arthroplasty nurse said it was because I had been still whilst asleep. I do get the odd ache and pain but felt it was part of the whole process. I too exercise every day but unlike you I had the posterior approach which can take longer to heal. If your X-rays are good and it's worrying you maybe get a second opinion??
Hi Jane , maybe go the ofthe other ones you interviewed see what the think.
I hope you get some answers
JAckie
Hi, Jane! X-rays don't show problems with muscles and tendons. You need MRI or ultrasound for that. You probably have some muscle/tendon damage that has either been there since surgery and never healed, or happened post-op. A good orthopedist should be able to diagnose this for you.
I have gluteal tendon damage that has never healed, and I have had pain and a severe limp that has never gotten better after my THR 8 months ago. Had MRIs ordered by two different orthopedists, the first (my original surgeon) didn't see the tendon tears, but the second opinion one did. My tears are so bad that I need surgery to repair them.
Groin pain involves different muscles from those causing my problem, but the principal is the same.
Thank you Annie, your information has been so helpful. My surgeon is supposedly the best in my area. He is very conservative and waiting to see if it heals. It has gotten better but there is an element to the discomfort that seems like it won't heal.
I hope you get some relief very soon.
15 months of waiting sounds rather too conservative to me! If it hasn't healed by now, what makes him think it ever will? I don't mean to sound nosy, or anything, but even if he is the best in the area, maybe he isn't the best regarding the problem you have now. Maybe it's time for a second opinion from another well-regarded orthopedist in a different practice to examine you and give a diagnosis. Just a thought. Best of luck!
You are right Annie. I will ask him or call another doc. Hope you feel better.
