I am 2 weeks post op and i think i may have dislocated my new hip. I had physiotherapy today and also did a lot of walking. After laying down i started getting pain in my groin. I can still walk and move around but it hurts a bit more than usual. Just wondering if this is serious or just normal pain.
Hi Chelsea
I am 4 weeks post op RTHR.
It sounds like you have just overdone it, I have seen many people write about these pains in the early weeks. I have also read that if you had dislocated your new joint you would not be able to walk and you would be in excruciating pain.
Make sure you keep taking any pain meds if you need to and rest, listen to your body. I overdid it yesterday and had to take pain killers after not taking any for a week, I walked 1.6 miles and it was just too much for me.
I hope you are feeling a bit better today.
Good luck with your recovery.

Hi Chelsea ... the groin pain I was experiencing made me find this forum when I was 3 weeks post up - now I am 10 weeks - was put at ease when I read how normal it was and still is, even now ... I think we feel so great in the 2nd and 3d week and then overdo it - eager to get it over with, right? well, it takes time and patience and being gentle with your self .... as said : listen to your body - take it easy today - big hug
Just sounds like you've over done it.
6 weeks post op and there have been a couple of days where it smarts but it was, thinking back, days where I did in but of exercise.
Don't rush it the recovery and little the muscle recover.
Hope you feel better now
As everyone says, I just think you have overdone the walking. Cut down a bit on that, its easy to do too much when there is no pain, so I should take it easy for a day or so and build up gradually. You will get there, it becomes easier after 4 weeks. Best wishes.
Thanks for the reassurance guys. I think I may take a trip to the hospital tomorrow to get it X-rayed though because I just woke up unable to put weight on it without a lot of pain, and it seems to have moved into the joint. Im thinking maybe something inside has just started to loosen, but not dislocate...
Good thinking Chelsea and good luck - let us know the outcome and in the meantime: take it easy girl - warm hug
Hi,
Just sounds like you have overdone it, even though I am 6 weeks post op, I thought I was superwoman last Saturday and was in agony all day Sunday and had to take painkillers, which I havent needed since week 2. Just rest up for a day and then gradually build up your walking, etc.
Hope you soon feel better xxx
Did you find it painful to put weight on it when this happened? I was told if it gotdislocated i would know because i wouldnt be able to move it at all and i can but it hurts to walk...
I just got home from the hospital and the doctor did'nt even have to X-ray my hip. He had me show him my range of motion and said the same thing as everyone else. Too much too soon. Thank God for that! I'm on bedrest until it gets better aside from doing light excersizes in bed.
Good news 😃👍
Absolutely!!! 😄
Groin pain normal!! I had it too , and posted in here when I had it : ) It came and went for a couple weeks then went for good.
Yeah I notice it seems to come after I've had a busier than usual day. Im in my third week. Hopefully it goes soon...thanks hun!

I was having no back pain before ..now it kills me to get u to pee.. (( to much to soon. I was getting around pretty good till this..
Shayne please call you doctor . It's best to be safe than sorry go in for a ck up. Your only less that a week from major surgery.
Im sorry you have gone thru this problem. Hope your better soon. Ice the area, take pain meds and rest until us can call your doctor.
I woke up this AM.. hard as heck to get outa bed.. but I did with help of hubby. The pain isn't in lower back anymore just in groin.. like I maby just pulled something. .Darn holiday.. my therapy guy isn't even comming till tomorrow. .I did go to kitchen make coffee.. the pain is like I pulled muscles
Hi,
Yes it is very hard to get in & out of bed. Is your bed raised and all chairs raising the level of the bed can make a big difference. It will be easier if you use the walker while getting up and remember the 90' no bending keep leg straight. It will become easier with time healing and practice. I used a strap to lift my leg up and down the first few weeks. Ask ur PT for help for techniques for moving in and out of bed. Take pain meds very important.
Another thing ,the brain needs time as you practice moving to adjust to sending new pathway signals to the brain to relearn movement with new prosthesis in place. The old bone is gone and new signals take time to relearn movements. Soon imovements will be automatic.
You may feel like a muscle pulled and it could be from surgery tugging and moving tendons and muscles. I have had 3 THR surgeries each one was different. Patience and time is a good thing . Rest and ice the area keep doing exercises in bed for movement it's all a new journey one day at a time.
Sweet hubby must be worried to see u hurting. It's tough to watch a loved one go thru all the ups and downs. Give him a big hug, and a big gentle hug from this hippie!
Have a good holiday! Sleep well, nap and enjoy this beautiful day! 😊
