finally got my referral to a gynecologist. She was great and well informed.
She gave me Estrace to use nightly for two weeks and then twice weekly after that. she said since I am healthy and premenapausal that I should have good results with it healing the vulva tissure and even reversing scar tissue. She told me it was ok to use at same time as Clob. and could even mix the two together on my finger before applying.
she was concerned with the amount of scar tissue and atrophy that I have. next week she is going to do a biopsy( Ive never had one) and a vulvoscopy to look at the rest of the vulva tissue to see if there is something else besides LS going on.
She believes that possibly postpartum drop in hormones set it off for me since I got it right after giving birth to my secon son.
really wish a doctor would have referred me to a gyn sooner. would of paid out of my pocket to see one if i could of afforded it. I just dont understand the hesitance in some doctors, if they are not educated on it enough they should direct you to some one who is immediately.
I have hopes about the estragen cream
she also said she did not see any signs of cancerous tissue.
That's a good result fou you, and a relief to finally have someone that is a specialist in the area. Totally agree GP,S take ages before they refer you to a Specilist, I had 2 yrs of Uti 's then I had to wait over 9 mths for the appointment to be seen. I am so pleased for you hope the Estrace works wonders for you keep us informed of any improvement . X
Unfortunalety this delay in diagnosis is sort of normal. Interesting that she suggested actually mixing the Estrace and Clobetasol. My gynae was also optimistic about what the estrogen cream would accomplish. Do keep us posted.
Sounds positive sha...Do I understand it correctly that Estrace is a kind of estrogen cream?
I've just been told that the estrogen cream makes the skin more flexible. In my case the gynacologist prescribed Premarin.
The hesitation for reverral to a specialist could be because of health insurance policies and limitations put on doctors.
Good healing I wish you.
Estrace is estradiol, a different form of estrogen – it's used in 'the patch'.
It wasn't the diagnoses that was delayed but the referral to a specialist over the past ten years. I specifically asked her if I should apply the estrace at a different time then the clob and she said no and mix them if I wanted. Morrell I hope we both get good results with the estrace.
I hope you do. I can't use the Premarin cream I was prescribed. First time I used it vaginally, as directed. A year later I tried using it like clob, but a few days in I got a yeast infection. I've had great results with Dermovate, I'm down to twice a week. No white area, no tear. My clitoris is completely buried and my vagina is too small for sex. That all happened before my extremely tardy diagnosis. (Like 40 years!) So, it's really too late for me to expect estrogen to fix me up for sex. I'm cool with that now.
Im going to use it by itself tonight to see if it irritates me. She said just a pea size amount rubbed into the vulva skin. Ive been fortunate not to have serious fusing. I have notIiced this year that my vaginal opening is closing in a bit, the skin feels like its tightning. Also the clitoris hood seems to have shrunk a little. So we shall see, some women have had great results. I'll be interested in finding out if there is something besides the LS going on.
Glad that you finally got your referral. I hope that the estogen helps. I went off of my estrogen cream for a couple of months thinking that it might be irritating my vulva, but the LS actually seemed to get worse. I've added it back in the last couple of weeks and the tissues look happier and healthier. Good luck to you!
Since I switched to clob ointment I havent had any flares or skin irritation from anything so if I do get irritation I'll know its the estrogen. Ill use at least til my apt next week and see how it goes.
Sounds like you're at the perfect stage to have estrogen really help keep your vulva normal. Dee, the woman who runs the site 'Living with Lichen Sclerosus' says it took three years to make a big difference, so as long as there are no adverse side effects, if I were you I'd stick with it.
hey, just interested to see how you're getting on with the estrogen cream? Im going to my GP tomorrow to get some.
Are you just applying it lihtly over the inflanmed area or are you "stretching" the clitoris, labia to "unfold" at the same time Jeses, listen to mee?
Some questions I ask. Hope you understand
