hi had gyni appointment today my fibroid is size of a grapefruit going for hystorectomy begining december thank god get rid of this devil for good

Did they discuss how they would get it out - vertical incision ? mine is also huge so scared of having a huge incision. i have had a myomectomy - so wondering how a hysterectomy recovery will differ from that, as i to feel i need to get rid of this monster thats draining me.

Cut will across the way i am 49y to b honest i dont care about recovery or pain i willjust deal with it as it comes im just glad im getting rid of it its caused me so mut trouble problms and pain. Also mine was only 7cm two mth ago its grew 3cm from then so better out rthan in as they say
Yes lainyjane roll on december could have had it end october but im watching my grandson november for a week so put it back till december
im only 10 yrs younger than you, but don't have kids, so hysterectomy will end that lol. But like you say these monsters cause nothing but trouble and just have to accept that its so huge now, my uterus is almost at the size of a full term pregancy so i just have to walk the path of a hysterectomy and bit the bullet. wish you all the best hyster-sister 
There is the option of getting the injections into the stalk of the fibroid this stops blood flow and they shrink back just coz im 49 they getting rid everything. Have u conciderd that ?
Also my i wont have to caey pads tampons knickers in my bag anymore lol
Hi Fibroidy. My uterus is also enlarged. Because that is the case, if I had a hysterectomy, they would have had to cut from the navel down. Robotic surgery was not an option due to the enlarged uterus....and mine is not the size of a full term pregnancy. My largest Fibroid is 9 cm....the size of a grapefruit, they say. I just had a UFE on August 18, just over 4 weeks ago. That may be an option for you. I believe there may be challenges getting pregnant, but it is still possible if you want children...unlike with a hysterectomy.
my gyna recommended hysterectomy and think with the speed they are growing, just want them out for good, never to return
Hi Fiona that's great as long as the Gyncologist didn't push it on you. And there are other less drastic options which they won't tell you about such as UFE. Good luck with your. Recovery.

Exactly! My old gynecologist tried to force a hysterectomy on me. Sent me to a speciatist. He suggested a less invasive approach. She was shocked by was so dead set on a hysterectomy that she tried to send me to another specialist. I dumped her and found another gynecologist, who suggested a UFE, which I had on August 18, 2016.
Good luck, i had a total hysterectomy leaving ovaries last October, it has been a long road to revocery and waiting for an hernia repair atm caused by my large incision and infection and doing too much to soon after surgery I would still have the surgery again as my life had all but stopped, i had one fibroid the size of a melon weighing 4lbs and 4 the size of large oranges and 1 was pressing on my bladder that had started to degenerate. I was 43 and had my family and was really out of other options with the size of my womb etc. If a hysterectomy can be avoided it is worth looking at other options. I grapefruit size is large but its not huge. If my womb was not so large or my cervix prolapsed i would not have had such major surgery tbh. Don't want to put you off but complications do happen, some patients are in and out of hospital quicker than others and i was generally fit and healthy. I woud also ask if you can have stiches insted of staples/clips i found these and i no other women have to very uncomfortable. Best wishes x

Hi dedarnix. I cannot understand why a women would choose a Hyserectomy over UFE. Unless they had a failed UFE even then I wouldn't do it. I've decided that if my tummy has not shrunk by 18th Jan 2017 then I am going to insist on a Myomectomy and the more they push the more determined I will get. If more women refused they would not force Hystetectomy on any of us. I have only seen one Gyni and he was a liar so I'm very wary of them.
Well if u new the problems i have had for years i was on shrinking tablets for 6mth as well didnt work everyone has a rite to choose what they want to happen to thete body i just so happn to choose what u wouldnt does that make me less off a woman no
I was not forced in fact i met with three different surgeons for their opinions etc. I wanted to have keyhole surgery but my fibroids grew so big and then my cervix prolapased it was not possible. I have heard very good things about myomectomys and they are preformed alot in the USA but not so much in the UK.

Hi Patricia, Where are your / is your fibroid? Mine is intermural in the lower posterior wall, so if I went for myomectomy (or tried to push for it) I would be left with a lot of scar tissue at the back. So my main worry (in my situation) about myomectomy is adhension of the bowel. My first gynie (head of gynie at our local hospital advised me against Myomectomy because of that) He referred me to another trust re embolisation. I am hopefully going to have that. As like you I thought a decreased dead fibroid might be easier to get out keyhole rather than open. However another concern of mine re keyhole is the way they have to break up the fibroid to get it out. I seen the gynie I was referred to last week & he offered myomectomy for me, instead of UFE I said I'd rather go down UFE route as advised by pprevious gynie & friend. I said I was worried about bowel adhension & he did agree that was a risk but he said that was for him to worry about. But its not him that has to live with it if it happens. I am still awaiting to here back from another specialist (who embolises) & he like my first gynie said for me 2 options UFEor hysterectomy. I didn't ask him why he thought not myomectomy I should have. The NE gynie I seen last week said the risks of morcelating a fibroid to get it out keyhole are if its cancer its spread all over the abdomen & that if any fibroid particles are left they re grow & can re gfrown on liver, kidneys, bladder, etc as well as uterous. It would seem nothing is without risk however his experiences were that he had only done one hysterectony after infection caused by UFE, the lady in questions was 9 months after embolisation & had got the infection by the degenerating fibroid, but if he had only done one the odds of that didnt seem high, Though he did say that the bigger the fibroid is the higher the chance of infection with necrotic tissue when degenerating. He said he had just had to remove a massive fibroid from someones liver & uterous after that person had had a previous myomectomy a few years before. It left me coming out more confused than I'd gone it. Option 1 leave it started to be an option again! But then I came back to my senses & thought try UFE if I can, then see how it goes & re-asses. As I like you had thought if it decreases but is still a bother then I could have keyhole myomectomy. But if a fibroid is dead after UFE, then you have a myomectomy becuse it hasnt shrunk enough & is still troublesome can a dead fibroid, if mocelated to come out via keyhole, still spore onto other organs? This answer to that question I do not know. But all I'd say Patricia is, if you are considering keyhole myomectomy ask these questions, as the last thing you want it to be having another myomectomy in a few years, or for fibroids to spread when broken down onto other organs. If that a risk to you maybe open myomectomy would be better, do they take the thing out whole when its open? I don't know about you but I'd rather have a vertical scar if I had to, to get the thing out whole then the worry of them basically mincing it up into sausages to get it out by keyhole & fibroid spores possibly still left. I'd be really interested to hear what you think but I think you need to see a good gynocologist you can trust. Best Wishes
