I'm taking Penicillin for my acute Tonsillitis which I need to take for 1 month (as prescribed by ENT specialist ). I also have a strong symptoms of H Pylori infection and it's giving me very bad time. (Upper abdominal pain, bloating, acid reflux). My Doc tells me, H Pylori test gives false result while on antibiotics but I can't stop it because of tonsillitis. Anyone in here has gone thro this issue, can not we start medication for H Pylori eradication without confirmation or there are any other H Pylori tests which can be done while taking antibiotics?? Help needed, please.
Finish your antibiotics first to make sure the tonsilitis clears up, then see your doctor about an h pylori test. Your doctor is right about the h pylori test showing a false negative if you are already on antibiotics. You can have a breath test, stool test, blood test or endoscopy to detect H pylori but you will need to be off antibiotics and PPIs for two weeks for any of these tests to be accurate. Listen to your doctor.
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately ent suggesting tonsillectomy and also diagnosed with silent reflux. Now in big confusion as i have read very bad review of tonsillectomy during acid reflux.
Tonsilectomies can cause you to have trouble resisting infections such as colds. I had mine removed as a child and I was never without the cold afterwards. If you have them removed as an adult, this can also cause complications. My mum had them removed as an adult and it it triggered hypothyroidism. My grandad who was a GP said she should never had them removed.
