Hi all
Yesterday was the best I've felt in a long time then woke up this morning and boom it all came back I thought I was getting their yesterday and today I'm so down its so hard when you've had a good day then the day after it all comes back again this will be my 5 th week on citalapram is this normal and will it ever get better because at the minute doesn't seem it will
ADVICE PLEASE
Hi Don
sorry to hear today is not so good. Unfortunately you are correct this is the path it takes! You will find you get good days and really rotton ones! Good news is once you start getting a 'good day' this will be followed by a patchier path of good and bad days, then you will find the run of good days will increase and your sunshine will be back. Try and roll with the bad ones, do only what you can manage, if that happens to be nothing. .do that! I know doing nothing is not an option for those with family responsibilities, but just take it as easy as you can.
Your getting there! The bad days will soon be overshadowed by the good days!
God bless X keep positive ♥
It's ok!!! Dwelling on your frustration and disappointment won't help anything. Just try to forgive yourself (at least when I have a hard time, I tend to blame myself that I'm failing at recovery). I am on 9 weeks now, and feel a lot better than at week 5. If you're on 10mg, I would talk with your doc about upping to 20mg. Mine pushed me a little too far, and in a week and a half from starting I was up to 20mg, so it has a lot rougher at the begining, but I think it's better for me now. I'm now on 24 mg because my doc gave me liquid form and trusted me to find my sweet spot. I feel good at this level, but still have hard days and even a few days. But the hard days are less intesnes than before.
When you have a rough day, try to give yourself compassion and even love by doing something that is somewhat indulgent and you enjoy. I know it's hard to enjoy much on a hard day, but try to think of somehting... maybe watching your favorite feel good movie or something. Also, try some guided meditation. I know it sounds kind of hokey, and when I'm very strung out with anxiety, the thought of doing one can be daunting or seem silly, but every time I do it helps a lot. I use some phone apps like "OMG I Can Meditate" (the blanket of love meditation helps when I'm having a tough day, and it's free), there's also "Headspace". The app Pascifica has helped me map out how I really am doing in general, and not get freaked out when I hit a harder time (It helps you track how you are feeling a few times a day, and since I started CIT, it has gotten more and more positive in general, even if there are some blips.)
Hang in there!!!!!!!!!! know that people are struggling in similar ways and that you're not alone. Trying a medication can take a lot of bravery, and you're doing great.
Hi don
Your doing really well and 5 weeks is really early days! I was very much like that until about 12 weeks I'm now at 14 weeks and having amazing days but I'm sure a few bad ones will follow now and again! It is a roller coaster but keep positive and take a day at a time follow the rough with the smooth and you will get there I promise. Good luck xxx
Thanks so much that helped xx
Thanks so much it gives me hope x
Hope you keep updating and letting me know how your doing xx
Yes will do its nice to talk to someone that been though this other that haven't don't understand and just say pull yourself together I wish it was so easy how long have you been on citalapram ?
Hi Don
i was on citalopram for six months and was plagued by every side effect going! At six months I was still not significantly better, so my gp switched me to mirtazipine. Then wow! My health returned in rapid speed. Citalopram has worked wonders for numerous people, so please don't be put off. Finding the correct AD can be the tricky bit. some unlucky people try a few before they get the right one. Others the first AD they try works wonders. If you get to 6 week mark and cannot see any improvement, I would suggest to speak with your gp for their views. Some people may prefer to wait and wait (I did for 6 months) please don't wait too long as the aim is to get relief ASAP!
Various researches state UNTREATED depression on average clears within 6 to 8 months. Therefore treatment is geared to reduce the time frame. I know wonder if I'm feeling better as it's been over seven months for me! Ultimately go with your gut feeling and don't wait months if citalopram doesn't bring your health back to a satisfactory level.
Hope you start feeling better soon. It's a horrible illness and it's definitely something you can just pull yourself together! People say these silly things out of ignorance. If they had to go through it, it would change their views forever!
God bless xx
Yes, this is how recovery works. You don't just get better and that's it, you'll be up and down for a while - one day you'll think you're winning and the next you're back at square one. Just go with it - in time the bad times will get less and the good times get longer and stronger. For me the last thing to disappear was the morning anxiety.
You're on the right path by the sound of it. Just keep going.

Hi Don,
Totally agree with everyone and just wanted to send my support too. Keep reading, posting and asking that is why we're all here.
Enjot the ups! They'll help you through the downs!
Best Regards,

Hi Don
I am about the same as you, a couple of hours today i was really down. I put it down to coming back home to empty house after 4 days with my daughter and grandson. They argue and normally i am glad to come home but i was flat. I am going to hang in there as waking up is definitly better so i am hoping it will improve more.I have been on 10mg of escitalopram for 5weeks which is equal to 20mg of citalopram hope this gives you some hope. Cheers
