I would give surgeons secretary a ring and see what is happening

You should definitely ring the surgeons Secretary as some of the pre op tests have a time limit I had my pre op early December and had op on 27th February

Hi , seems to depend on where you live . I live in wales and was on list for 15 months had 3 pre ops as they run out . I did ring coordinator every few months to see what was happening .

phone every day get put through to the consultants booking secretary and nag that is too long between pre op and surgery

When I had the date for my pre-assessment, they also gave me the date for surgery, so I should definitely contact someone to see where you are on the list as you may need to have another pre-op.  Good luck.

Hi,

I had to chase up a date for surgery after my pre-op assessment even though they said they would contact me with a date. I have heard others having experienced this 'arrangement'.  I phoned directly to the operating booking desk at Daren Hospital where I had my op and a operation date was made straight away with no consultations with doctors etc.  Good luck.

I agree with all the other posters. I didn't get my pre-op appointment until I had the date of my operation. About a month apart. I would definitely ring the consultants secretary.

I agree, get onto the hospital. I was told by the hospital admissions person for my hospital trust in East London that the pre-assessment lasts 3 months(sounds crazy to me so much can change in that time) but that their waiting time was more like 6 months at the moment. Seemed to me they were arranging the pre-ops to meet targets with no hope of getting you on the operating table within a reasonable time period. In the end I opted for private. Call them and chase especially if you are suffering.

Unbelievable Mary talk about a postcode lottery! No wonder some NHS trusts are losing money. The pre-op takes at least an hour. It's the patients too, when I went for my pre-op there was a notice up showing that in the previous 3 months 60 appointments had been missed without notifying the hospital!

Hi I was told that once you had your pre-op your op had to be done within 3 months? I may be wrong but I would chase it up if I were you Regards Ron

Yes that was my understanding but they admitted they are not meeting the targets at the moment. I opted for private and am now 5 weeks post op. It was worth it for the certainty and I was lucky to have this as an option.

I firstly would say it all depends on what pain you are in if really bad and getting worse then keep ringing consultant secretary and also if u have an email then you are going to have to keep pestering tell them you cannot go on with the pain, this is what I had to do it's the only way. Good luck

Hi i would get in touch with hospital i went for pre op on12th Nov had operation.on 19th Jan the wait is the worse part as the operation is not as bad as i was expecting good luck take care.

I have spoken to PALS and now they have told me that other people on the surgeons list have also been waiting quite a while.

I have been told that pre op lasts for 6 months.

Been told that i have a prolapsed bowel, been going on for about 3 years now and passed from one consultant to another now on 3rd consultant and waiting for laparoscopy to see if anything else can be done.
