Had rectocele surgery, how long do I need off work? on feet all day at work.

I am 51 and had rectocele surgery and perineo repair 4 days ago june,3,2015

Had a wonderful surgeon in new jersey that I found, even though I live in virginia beach, virginia.

Everything went well, surgery took approx 2 hours and was done outpatient.

I work as an anesthesia/surgical assistant and am on my feet all day at a very busy oral/maxillofacial surgery office.

I took 2 weeks off of work but not sure that will be enough.......

Any of you ladies have advice for me?

Your advice will be much appreciated.

Hello martina. It definitely won't be enough time off. When I had my repair I was off 13 weeks. If you are on your feet all day you'll need the same amount of time off.

Wow, My boss is not going to be happy

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I believe at least 6 weeks and often longer if you are on your feet. Your boss will have to it up with it, going back too soon may hinder your recovery meaning you will need more time off later. Your health comes first.

Hi Martina,

I will be having rectocele repair surgery this fall and am getting info and advice from people who have had it done. Did you use bio mesh, transvaginal mesh or no mesh using your own vaginal tissue for the repair? I have rules out tranavaginal mesh because there seem to be a lot of side effects. One doc told me he recommended pig skin to support and push the rectocele in place and thought my own weak pelvic floor muscle alone wouldn't provide long term support. The other has been doing the surgery with no mesh for decades and says there is not a noticeable difference in longevity between the two. So confused!

I am 8 days post op and had no mesh and happy so far.

Have a ways to go before i can give more advice though.
