Had sacrospinous fixation and often needing to urinate

I had a sacrospinous fixation for a uterine prolapse the 19th of March. An anterior repair wasn't necessary cause the fixation was enough to lift the bladder as well.

Apart from a dull ache sometimes in my right buttock I have no pain. The only thing that's getting annoying is the fact that ever since the op I need to urinate more often (10 to 12 times) during the day and in between toilet visits I off and on have a feeling of needing to pee. The strange thing is... that feeling is only present a couple of hours a day and then it's gone. For example yesterday it started two hours after waking up and stopped at around one in the afternoon.

I have been tested for a UTI and that came out negative.

My Dr says it is probably a reaction to the operation and that it will get better in time.

Who recognizes this or has some advice?

Hi.  I had  the SF op in August last year. After the op I had the buttock pain for a week or so and  also needed to urinate more.  This has now calmed down and I am doing ok. I think it took about 4months or so for the need to wee to get back to normal.! These ops take a long time to fully recover from, this was my third!! Everything is great now though. Take care of yourself and take it easy for a while. Hope this helps.

Four months! Wow that's still a long way to go then. And did you also have the urge feeling off and on?

I had SSF in November as well as rectoenterocele repair. I also had an anterior repair in 2013.

I found after the AR I had bladder problems (which I didn’t have pre-op at all). I was so worried and had lots of tests etc but it just settled down on its own eventually. I’ve had bowel problems too but that’s another story!

It’s very early days for you so I wouldn’t worry too much. X

It kept getting better over that time and got less noticeable. I only had the urges early on not all that time.  Just try and be patient and not stress about it.  I was worried my op hadn’t worked  early on but it was fine when I went back to see the consultant.

That sounds reassuring. Thanks!

Maybe I'm just being impatient, I don't know. I have no idea what's normal to be feeling and what's not.

Ren, FWIW I had an A&P repair and this happened to me at around 3-5 week mark.  I told my doc at the 4-week check up and he told me it was normal, but to do a bladder diary for a few days so he could assess after more recovery time had passed (just Google bladder diary and print out any form).  He was right- after about 2 weeks I stopped having those symptoms.  It’s been 7 weeks post op for me and I don’t have those urinary issues anymore (fingers crossed!!).

Hi Ren

It's great that you sought the advice of your doctor he/she is best person to assess you and is invested in your care.

Like you I felt like my journey was a little unknown.

It is great to read the support that has been sent your way from other post-ers.

Your surgery is very recent, checking in with your doctor helps to allay any concerns.

Rest rest rest

Peta

Thanks. I'm already keeping a bladder diary to see if there's improvement. Your story sounds positive!

The thing I just don’t get is that I had quite a good day yesterday: went to the toilet less and only had that urge feeling for about two hours. And today seems to be worse again.
