Anyway 2 weeks ago i couldnt get my gp and went to a locum he told to go to A&E were i waited for 8 hrs to see a doc there they took blood chest xray ecg and came back with i had a chest infection and to take augmentin duo 625mg for 7 days it helped alright but symptoms came back after 4 days Wheezing coughing the usual stuff i am still not great and wonder should i go back to the A&E or wait till i get to see my GP

hi Rob, happy new year to you too pal. Im 60, and like yourself had asthma many years and then got told last year I had the Bronchiectasis in the old lungs. Past few days I have almost gone to A+E with the wheezing and coughing crap up, but I was worried wasting their time, but you have been once and got antibiotics, I would say you need to go back and get a longer course of them, best wishes
Go back to A&E. Make it clear to the registration team that you have bronchiectasis, which is a chronic condition requiring immediate and thorough sputum analysis of the underlying infection plus a holding dose of broad spectrum antibiotic. Tell them that the A&E doctor you saw last week missed requesting a sputum sample, which you have been told by other sufferers was a mistake on his/her part, which may now jeopardise being able to identify the appropriate antibiotic. [unfortunately your 4 days of Augmentin may noe prevent a culture detecting a clear analysis of all the bacteria in your lungs]. Suggest to the registration nurse that you should see a chest specialist for follow - up, but you need more med immediately.
All this to be delivered with max politeness and respect but also with resolve. They may not be able to find a chest specialist on the day and the doctor that you do see may advise that a sputum analysis is now a waste of time. Discuss with whoever you do see whether, given the initial failure of the Augmentin, you should move to a different broad spectrum antibiotic and have a kick off injected dose. Something like Levofloxacin would be appropriate (but more expensive to them than Doxycycline which would also be an OK choice.

Bummer to have to go to A&E. Sounds like you've got an infection that the augmenting didn't clear up. Go to doctor and give sputum sample and find out exactly what bug you've got and what it is sensitive to.

Personally I would go back to the locum and explain yr still not well you also need to take a sputum sample to see what bug your growing. You may need further anti biotics and some predisalone steroids to help with your wheezing.
