Haemorrhoid Hell

Hello,

ive been suffering with hems for quite some years now. I had the Raefelo procedure a year ago and although it eased some symptoms, it has no way fixed them.

My surgeon is now recommending HALO… can anyone share their experiences with this procedure?

thanks a lot

Everyone has different experiences, but in my personal experience, HALO was less painful than RAFAELO and a quicker recovery. Also, in my personal experience - I’ve had several different procedures - the problem can re-occur after any procedure. Some people are lucky and are fixed permanently, others the problem re-occurs - maybe years/months later.

Hi Ben,

Have you looked into electrotherapy? I had the procedure 4 weeks ago as I didn’t want to go for surgery as I’m self employed. They used a direct electrical current to treat my grade 2 haemorrhoids and i was able to carry on with my normal activities the same day. I had a specialist colorectal nurse carry out the procedure in my home. My haemorrhoids have now completely shrunk and I’m no longer in pain or bleeding when having a BM.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt, did you have to go privately for the electrotherapy? I’ve not heard of it before.

Matt,

Can you tell us more about the electrotherapy? I haven’t heard of it before also. Were you hems internal, external? Are you in the US? Thanks!

Rich

Hi, Yes i paid for the treatment privately as its not available on the NHS just yet. The nurse said it was a relatively new treatment in the UK. If you check out NICE’s website on electrotherapy it will tell you about the procedure and how it works. I was given no anaesthetic and the nurse treated me in the home. I went back to work the next day. Overview | Electrotherapy for the treatment of haemorrhoids | Guidance | NICE

Hi Rich, please see my response above. I live in the UK just outside of London. I had grade 2 internal haemorrhoids.

I believe electrotherapy cannot be done on external haemmorhoids but I may be wrong. The nurse said that this treatment actually came from the US so it might may be worth researching on google and finding a clinic in the US that does it.

thanks,

Matt
