STAY AWAY FROM BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION THAT CONTAINES BLTTA BLOCKERS. YOU WILL SEE A DIFFERENT IN 2 WEEKS OR BEFORE.
aSK YOUR DOCTOR FOR OTHER BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN BETTA BLOCKERS. YOU WILL SEE A DIFFRENCE IN 1 WEEKS. i HAD HORRIBLE VISUAL HAULICINATION UNTILL THE BETTER BLOCKERS WERE DISCONTINUE. NOW I AN ON CLONIDINE. NIFIDIPINE AND ENALAPRIL.. AM ABLE TO SLEEP AGAIN. AM HAPPY NOW.
FOR SOME REASON THE INFORMATION DID NOT TAKE COMPLETELY. STAY AWAY FROM ANY MEDICATION THAT CONTAINS BETTA BLOCKERS. I WOULD SEE HORRIBLE THINGS IN MY BEDROOM COME NIGHTTIME. WHEN ON TO OTHER MEDICATION THAT DID NOT CONTAIN BETTER BLOCKERS. THE NIGHTMARE ENDED. LIFE IS GOOD NOW. AM ABLE TO SLEEP.
I am no longer on propranolol but am on Bisoprolol 10 mgs. I take it for rapid heart rate and the only thing it does is make me exhausted. But if i don't take it my resting heart rate runs at about 130 bpm. So it feels like i am constantly running a marathon. WIll talk to my cardiologist about going off for a while to give my body a break. I have tried many beta blockers and i do not hallucinate anymore but just feel exhausted.
BETTA BLOCKERS WILL DESTROY YOUR LIFE. IT DID MINES AND WHEN DISCONTINUE, ALL WENT BACK TO NORMAL.
This is actually more common than you'd expect. There are so many papers and reports on these symptoms from normal doses of propranolol. This paper is worth the read, https://pmj.bmj.com/content/postgradmedj/63/735/57.full.pdf
Yup, also see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1604211/ I just found the above plus this very thread here tonight in a google search after experiencing visual distortions / hallucinations. I have never experienced this before, propranolol was the only med I had taken (and completely free of meds for weeks before this. No alcohol. I have taken propranolol several times before in the past without any issues, but this time it was a new form and higher dose than I've taken before:, 60mg ER version. It was not until 7 hours after taking the first dose that I noticed a strange distortion of my visual field, I was at the dinner table, not sleepy at all. I started freaking out a bit just because I had never experienced anything like this and didn't know what was causing it, I was worried maybe my retina was detaching or something. I took off my glasses thinking maybe they were somehow causing it, but nothing changed. I was seeing flashes of light, blinking dots, and some interesting colorful patterns, all in my peripheral only, I could not look directly at the patterns, they always stayed at the edges of my vision. I tried closing my eyes and still saw them, tried going into a dark room with eyes open and that's when I saw the most, it was actually kind of cool and beautiful but when you don't know the cause it can freak you out. This whole little episode only lasted about 15 minutes then disappeared. I had no idea in advance that propranolol had this side effect and that it is even fairly common.
I just came across this tonight. I get the spiders thing all the time, I hate it 🙈 It's so real, even though I know it's not.
hi I was reading your comment I also take same medication as you do but I take 40 mg twice a day I have been taking this medication for years and I will say in the past three months I have had hallucinations or maybe night terrors something I wake up in the middle the night three or four different times I’ll see stuff on the walls I feel like I see figures standing in my room I feel like I see stuff in my living room wall where my pictures hang it’s crazy it’s kind of freaking me out how long have you been on the medication I have been on it for at least at least 10 years hope to hear back from you
I have been taking that medication for years and years and I have just now started in the past like two or three months heaven like I don’t know like night terrors or hallucinations or something like spiders on the walls seeing shadow figures or something in my room in the corners stuff on the ceiling I have never hallucinated off of anything and I like I said I’ve been taking this medication for years and it’s just now starting so it’s just a little odd to me that it would just now start but only other thing I take is a cholesterol pill and a blood pressure medication and the medicine that I take that I think is making me hallucinate is for my chronic migraines weird I don’t understand I wish I could get more answers
Ive been on this med for only 3 days, and i'm seeing people who arent there, that ive never met before. Im 15 years old. I take the meds for my heart. I mean... the people im seeing dont even look like ghost. I woke up and looked on the end of the bed to see a Old lady near my feet. I was very paranoid, yet I still am. I see figures, Im feeling really depressed. I dont know what to do

I just started this medication today 40 mg twice daily, at night the hallucinations started wtf from the first day? it's very suprising that so many people seem to have the same type of things i was trying to sleep facing my mirror and saw a spider leaping between my cabinets (black figure)
don't know if i would want to continue was using Ivabradine previously for Sinus Tachycardia worked so well but i had double vision (not always) and light sensitivity.
might go back to metoprolol but it made me tired when i used it for over 2 months.
This happens to me at night! I'll think that I see things moving along the ceiling and wall but I know it's not there. one time something out of the corner of my eye terrified me though. Twice now I've woken up either my husband or our youngest that was in bed with me. first time I thought a spider was on the blanket and just the other night it looked like some black mass was coming down toward us from the ceiling. not sure if it was supposed to be a bug or what but I had to get up and turn the light on for both. Also at first the dreams were wild but fun and interesting. now they are getting to be sad or scary subjects
the spiders are the worst! once I screamed out loud because I thought one was crawling on my blanket. just the other night I woke up my 7 year old who was sleeping next to me and made her get out of the bed with me because I thought a spider or something was coming down over us off the ceiling!
I notice if I miss a night dose the next night seems that I take it see.s to be a doozy
hi there, new to this forum but came across this on google as i was looking for answers. I've been on propranolol since end of Sept 2021 for migraines after a concussion. i honestly don't remember when my hallucinations started but i had the same thing too where i thought i saw a black mass coming down from the ceiling and i literally rolled out of my bed thinking it was a huge spider (i' m scared of spiders at night) and to put the lights on too. and last night i thought i saw another spider, like a string like spider(s) on the side of bed and i woke up with a gasp. i think i was just falling asleep and i was in that weird state. i've noticed i get these just before bed. i thought i was going crazy!
It is so trippy for sure! Yes I'm scared of spiders and bugs at night too so wondering if it's playing into my fears. Sometimes if I'm awake enough still I can rationalize what it is and it doesn't bother me but if I'm enough in that in between it scares me so much! I dream a lot too. Most of the time I have interesting dreams that I like but sometimes they are super negative, sad or scary.
my wife was prescribed propranolol for anxiety . she took her own life 2 months later due to psychotic episode caused by side effects of propranolol .a!
it is mist likely ur propranolol, i was experiencing the same taking 40mg twice a day, i had hallucinations every night only at night i wud see the same hallucinations everytime i woke up it was quite scary for me so my doctor lowered my dose to 20mg and the hallucinations more or less stopped
