Does anyone have problems with the cut made to straighten hammer toe?
At the same time as my bunion op I had my middle toe operated on to release the tendons and straighten it. I didn't know what would be involved but after I was told that he made an incision on the front part of toe, then made the bone shorter, which released the tendons. Six weeks later it's a bit straighter, but there is a line across the toe where he made an incision. It isn't a scar and it isn't a scab, it's just like a cut where the skin goes inwards like a dimple. It looks horrid, like I had my toe cut off and stuck on again. Does anyone have the same problem, or maybe had it done some time ago, just wondered if it was going to stay like this.
here is a photo. I'd like to compare?
Barbara is it painful and can you still bend your toe at the 2 joints?

Well I can move the middle toe forward and backwards, unlike my big toe, which will only move towards me on its on! I can't curl yet, too painful and stiff.
Hi Barbara
I had six toes done about 4 months ago and mine did look the same as yours..... They are improving but slowly.
With regards to bending movement I have non in these told and my surgeon has explained to me that it'll never return
Rubbing shea butter onto the scar tissue really helps
Good luck with your recovery

Ok thanks, but has the dimply line joined up ad one skin. More worried about looks and keeping it clean?
Yes mine looked like that now all knitted together
What I was trying to get at was. Did you have any of the small joints removed in the toe? Hence fusing it.
The surgeon said he cut a piece off the bone to make it shorter and so that the ligament or tendons would not pull the toe back and under. He told me sometimes it fuses but mostly it grows a cartridge or something (not sure) in its place. Have you had this op?
It sounds like you have had part of a joint removed. No I haven't had that particular operation. I think it is likely the scar will stay but hope I'm wrong.
Hi Barbara
It looks like you have scar tissue underneath . When the wound is totally healed, message it vigorously twice a day with bio oil and it will break down the scar tissue and the cut will look much better.
I am 10 weeks post up and my scar on my tight foot looked like yours , but now it hardly shows and the dimply look has gone.
You have to do it every day and really message the area hard and you will see a big difference in just a few weeks.
Good luck.
Thanks, I think it being a dimple there is a bit of infection, but I'm using antiseptic cream and it is beginning to feel better. I use bio,oil on my big scar and it's amazing how it's helping it to heal. Good to know the hammer to crease will join up. Thanks.
Hi, I'm now nine weeks and my hammer toe cut/scar is the same. I had an X-ray done of the whole foot this week and all the bones seem to have mended well but it's still sore on the outside of my hammer toe. The consultant said everything is fine though he hadn't come across my hammer toe scar the way it is before! He said it isn't infected though. As I'm not happy with it I'm going back to see him again in two months. It's very sore when I put the bio oil on it, so not sure what else to do, he said just leave it!
