My hip replacement was 7 weeks ago. During this time my fingers started to hurt badly. It was not helped by 'heaving' myself upright in bed with bent hands rather than flat hands. Now have to persue the question whether painful knuckles is due to RA developing or the use of crutches which I still need as have a dodgy knee as well. Anyone else experienced thiis?
Hi. I started this journey with OA in my hands. Have actually forgotten about them with all the pain and worry about my hips!
Medication - anti inflammatories and pain meds helped. Now all these are reducing my hands are starting to bother me again.
Have dodgy knees too!
maybe ask for hand X-rays?

Hi.
Had RTHR 16 days ago and have been off my usual medication in order to aid the healing process, I have been getting painful flare ups in shoulders and hands and much of it has to be down to using the crutches. Getting back on normal meds again over weekend so hopefully will settle.
Hope your pain settles too.

Hi Herbo
I have experienced this and that is why I didn't use crutches for long. I have OA and have been offered a complete new wrist, which I am still thinking about. I could stand and walk straighter with the crutches but my hands hurt. I am still getting pain from my knee and foot but I persevere.
Hope you have more luck than me and do what you feel best with.

Hi Herbo:
Yes, oh boy....do I! My arms and hands have hurt so bad, and I thought a lot of it is due to using the walker, then crutches and now cane. I still have another bad hip being replaced in two weeks so I am not able to walk un-aided either. Could be a combination of it all, as I have OA all over so the extra pressure and usage to the arms and hands really hurts. I even had callouses on my hands from the walker and crutches, those are getting a little better now. Just not for long, lol, will be back to the walker in a couple of weeks. Hope you feel better soon....Barb
hi herbo, very familiar to me - then I realized that I was holding on to my rollator like my life depended on it - unfortunately my fingers remained stiffer than before surgery - can also be related to the rainy and damp "summer" -very challenging to open jars etc - how are you doing otherwise? big warm hugrenee
I had a form of RSI in the shoulder from using one walking stick / cane - until i changed to using a hiking pole.
