Happy 2 week birthday to my new hip

Hi everyone, The last couple of weeks seem to have flown by.  Unlike how the weeks dragged on before the surgery.  I think I am doing quite well.  I do have one problem, which I was going to discuss with my Doctor,  but apparently I am no longer seeing him and a nurse is going to take out the rest of my staples, which is fine.

My poor stomach has not been happy since being in the hospital,  I have not taken any medication in several days other then the xarelto (blood thinner) , but still have little appetite and a digestive system that doesnt seem to calm down.  Has anyone had this experience ? and how did you handle it.  I am taking pro biotics as I was on a ton of antibiotics.

Thanks again everyone for all your support thesse past few weeks.

Lorraine.

so happy to hear from you Lorraine!  yes it is funny before surgery it is just one long waiting period with NOTHING else on your mind, but after, life goes on and you have to learn to cope with the new limitations.  My only issue with the stomach was the common one of SERIOUS constipation, I went through 3 large containers of prune juice but by week 2.5 things were back to normal on that issue, that just left me with the NO sleep (ongoing),  I also did not have much of an appitate and lost a few pounds but now starting week 5 and I've gained back the lost weight and another pound (I think it is the potato chips though)!!!  Perhaps you should be on a bland diet for while, but definately ask the doctor what you can do to get back on track....it is a matter of solving one problem at a time...good luck and I'm sure you will get some good advice fromt he ladies here!

Did you have a general, that could be a stomach issue for you.

I had an epidural and have been fine....

I take probiotics daily, antibiotics or not, also take digestive enzymes daily...my digestive issues are pretty good...

I take a lot of supplements and if my stomach feels a little bit off, I would take a little baking soda in water as it helps with acidity. Work on keeping my system alkaline too and use fresh lemon squeeze in my water and even my coffee, it does not change the coffee taste, just helps with the acid of the coffee....

Staying off sugar and carbs is a job I work on, sugar especially. I no longer buy breads so don't have them in my house.....

Glad your surgery outcome is good so far. j

Hi Lorraine, glad you are getting on ok, i am post op.5 weeks now and getting there, anyway, you might benifit asking your doctor for Omeprazole, its an gastro -resistant, i take one a day on an empty stomach, it breaks down the acid in the stomch, my doc insisted i take then because i take a lot of Ibruprofen ( well, i did before op. ) and i take them to prevent a stomach ulcer, plus i never get indigestion so you could ask him/ her, as for constipation, just eat salted peanuts !, did it for me! or whatever has made you 'go' in the past. good luck

Hi Lorraine, glad it's going well for you. I too have problems with my food and really cannot face much food but happy just to pick for now. I get a fair bit of indigestion too but hoping that will pass x

Hi, Thanks so much for your reply.  I wouldnt mind loosing a few pounds, so not to worried about that !!  Because everyone else had posted constipation problems I bought tons of bran products and prune juice, none of which I have had to use, as I have the opposite problem.  Will take these unopened to the food bank !!!!!  Hope you are doing well.  L.

Hi Joy, The digestive enzymes are a great idea, I shall e-mail my naturapath for some.  I try to stay off the bread but always give in, I stayed on the wheat belly diet for one month, really I have no self control.  I also had an epidural, but they really gave me tons of meds in the hospital and I am not use to taking anything.  I do put lemons and limes in my drinking water, don't drink coffee, but I am a tea pot.  Starting physio today and the sun is shining, so it looks like a good day.  L

I feel great NOT bring breads into my house...it was a process, first I went to gluten free and then I went to romaine lettuce leaves as my wrap for any kind of sandwich.....

For the stomach protection, I'm a great fan of DGL, deglycerrized licorice, does not elevate blood pressure....it's called the stomach lining tamer...

I still take ibuprofen 4-6 per day and a supp called Pain RX which is an herbal pain relief.....

I deal with other pain issues outside the replacement stuff....

On the bread issue, I break down now and then a buy the personal size pizza and put it in the oven.

Wheat Belly book is big. You are a teapot, lots of fluoride in tea,,,,fluoride is damaging. I have a post on the tea fluoride connection. j

Magnesium keeps me nice and regular and good for so much more, joints, heart and more...

I have an issue with peanuts, they do have a fungus effect....grown in the ground and dampness.....

Now I'm going to be motherly here and say don't not eat because of weight, you still need all your nutrients, etc., so maybe as a short term solution you could either make your own protein shakes or buy the ready made stuff "ensure".....got a clean bill of health from my surgeon today, still need the toilet seat, bath bench, etc for another week, then I can wean myself off the can as long as stick to my daily physio exercises at home to strengthen my leg!!! No driving yet, he said anytime after 6 weeks, he leaves it up to the patient as only we know what leg strengh we have (though he did test me and said I'm doing great and probably within 2 weeks I should have enough strength back), and then he said it is up to my personal confidence level..I said I would first practice in my court and then venture around the side streets, I'm in no hurry (going stir crazy BUT saving money) haha

Lorraine, so happy to hear that you are doing so well!  The worst is over!  All of the medications can really mess with your stomach.  I began taking Protonix and all is well with my stomach.

Dawn

Thank you for your reply, today was a good day, I actually had an apetite and enjoyed my food, o hopefully things are settling down.  What is Protonix?  L.

Hi, you can be as motherly as you like, but sorry, thick drinks are not in my future, I just gag on them.  Great that you are doing so well.  Its funny before the surgery I thought how will I cope not driving for 6 weeks, but honestly I don't feel like driving at this point.    I have found internet shopping.  !!!!!

Hi Joy, I see a naturapath and am on a really good mineral supplement with high amount of magnesium.  Interesting about the peanuts.
