Happy Hippy Birthday!
hello mic, congratulations, esp on the longevity of your Birmingham resurfacing. Can you tell me why you didn't do a resurfacing on your right hip? was it because of the metal ion stuff? I considered the BHR for a long time (even had an appointment with Mr McMinn in birmingham, but ended up not doing it because I had a potential allergy issue. But I have heard that the BHR's are great and give you more freedom to do sports activities than the THR. I am 47 yrs old and just had an anterior THR 3 months ago.
Hi BK,
Good to hear from you!
?Awesome thought that you might have had a Birmingham hip with the world reknown Mr McMinn (as a Uni Lecturer i knew the literature as was then pretty well!)
As you know BHRs are designed for the under 60s mostly, with certain spec of hip socket dimensions, and no, my reason for THR was purely geographic.
Oxford NOC think the risks are over-stated and they did an excellent job on me last time - so were I in Oxford or Birmingham i'd have gone for this BHR again.
But, in Exeter now, and the local hospital is a'centre of excellence' and think their op is simpler. less invasive and better than anyone in the Country.
So, when in Rome....
Good luck in your recovery - sounds like you were pretty fit pre op, which helps loads for a quicker recovery post op.
Cheers
Mic
