Happy hip birthday!

Well folks,

today my new hip is exactly 5 weeks old - and feeling pleased all is healing pretty well. Despite several phone calls to GP, and hospital yesterday, they mantain the exercises in book are fine, and I don't need any physio. Odd, very. Anyway, happy birthday hip.

SMILEYS:

I can walk upstairs carrying two cups of coffee!

I can put my own sox on!

I can kneel and play with the cat!

FROWNIES:

I still can't do straight leg lifts from bed or floor

Despite postural awareness, my op side shoulder is hurting sometimes

While walking a mile without crutch yesterday, I still need crutch in town cos a bit scared and feel vulnerable.

So, onwards and upwards!

hip hip hooray! just make sure your posture is right when doing the exercises, that is what the physio does - now that she no longer puts your sox on for you, perhaps your lovely wife could check that you are straight so that you know how you should be standing when doing the exercises!

i am keeping crutch as long as poss - it clears a path through a crowd in a second and people in shops are happy to get things from low or high shelves first time of asking!!

onwards and upwards x

i am still waiting for a date to have by THR , feeling very nervous about having it done, but readin the remarks on this forum keeps me positive, its great to hear all the comments that are so positive, keep up the good work.

Hippy Birthday to You!

Carry on with the crutch in town, people clear a path for you and if they don't just poke them with it or trip them up (haha).  You can play with the cat and I can brush the dog, when she keeps still that is.  Don't worry about the leg lifts.  I found I could do them in the swimming pool which helped on dry land and it does happen eventually.

Best, Barbara

Hi MIC what is a straight leg lift please?

Hi there

Kneels for cat or dog play seems like ok to do then!

Leg lifts...my physio book says lie flat on bed and raise whole leg from hip by 45 degrees. Yea will try in pool when I start swimming...For now I can do this but only with unoperated leg bent at knee. Still more healing to do!

Hip says thanks for happy birthday wishes !

He he....warning - man with crutch...In a town near you!

Mx

I can do that one easily , the one I have trouble with is laying on good side and lifting bad leg up . Physio said I need to do that before I can have other exercises .

Thank you I had not heard of that one before I must try it

we should all join together and write a Physio Book!! i was told to do the straight leg lift with bent good leg for the next 3 weeks then move on to straight unoperated one!

Leg lifts are quite important before the levitation off the bed exercises!

I almost believed you then !

Mic,

Are you putting your knees on the floor when you say "kneeling"?  or is it more like a squat?  Ginny eek

Hi Ginny

Been advised not to squat these early weeks.

So simply kneel on floor slowly from edge of sofa using arms. The crawl like a baby and play with cats. Do some sit ups. Reverse using arms...no squat as yet!

I am so scared to do that and i am 12 weeks.  i think im scared because i have gained so much weight afraid i cant get back up.  is it in my mind????

Will try that mic so I can play with my grand daughter .

Hi both

It's a a balance...I intuitively do some things and not others. Not saying this is right for others. I got a firm 'no squats' message so found for me a way to kneel on floor.

My next challenge is in a weeks time getting me into a bath after 6 weeks post op anniversary.

You are braver than me . I was told not to bath for 3 months .

10 weeks now and don't think I could manage it on my own so will wait

At my check up, the Physio told me never ever to squat or twist my body ever again, but kneeling was okay and even sitting on your heels is okay for a short time but never squats.  You will probably be given the same advice I should imagine.
