Hi I had a full hip replacement on Thursday morning came home Friday afternoon....I live alone so having done some research was very worried if I would cope!?
So relieved and happy to say so far all going well...had a shower this
Morn and have been moving carefully on the one crutch...my dressing looks nice and clean and the nurse is due tomorrow to change it....thought I'd just share my experience so far....I'm 54 btw ๐

Good for you. It can't be easy having to do household things. Not quite so bad with one crutch. When I was on two even simple things like carrying a cup of coffee were difficult.
Hope you continue to make good progress.
Mike
Hi there, I had my non cemented THR on 23 Jan. I'm partial weight bearing for 3 weeks on crutches which is driving me mad. Need help in the shower, putting elastic socks on and dressing lower half. Exercises have been going well. But overdid it Saturday by going out with my husband. Only walked short distance from and to car but knew about it yesterday. Still taking lots of pain killers to maintain relief. Did get out of chair awkwardly Saturday which it hurt like hell. Other than that everything is good except the boredom factor which is driving me crazy. Can't wait to be full weight bearing.
I'm amazed how quickly you left hospital! I was in for 3 nights! I'm 52 and have hip dysplasia, hence the need for the op.
Thank you ladies...dozed during the night and ached and felt a bit tight this morning...but walking as much as I can and showering ...obviously taking my time...my poorly leg seems to b getting more weight baring ....really happy with that just sat down and no pain just a bit achey...my son works as a nurse in orthopaedics and he just said....move move move! So much for my sympathy....but being alone iv got to push it....btw I'm 5ft4 and weigh around 11stone....worked hard with diet and exercise before hospital....but was really scared when people would say u will need help toileting preparing food etc....I had some awful visions in my head! The nurse supposed to come today to change dressing ....really eager to see that to....I'm on FB under alyson davies if u want to know more....thank u for getting back to me....healing is a v different process for us all and sounds as though your doing well to ๐
Good for you. I am 2 months post op. Give yourself lots of time to rest. Eat well. Do your exercises.
hi alyson and
warm welcome to this wonderful hippies forum where you will get all the sympathy and support like nowhere else ...
Where do you live ? Most of the members who had a short hospital stay live in the USA and had a anterior approach to their THR surgery ... most of us stay in the hospital a little longer ..
good to hear you are doing so well on your own and you are so brave !!!
I live alone too and went through 2 THR surgeries ... A home health nurse came every morning for 2 weeks to help me washed and get dressed etc ... I could take a shower after staples were removed at 14 days post-op ..I had posterior appproach ..
Are you full weight bearing or not yet? how about bloodthinning injections?
Love to hear more about how you are getting on ... amazing
big warm hug

.
Crikey I was in four days you seem to be well ahead and to be on one crutch already! I'm 58 now 8 weeks post op still on one crutch but driving again which is great. Only just joined this forum nice to get support and see others experience of their ops. Take it easy
Julie
I can understand the boredom I've never watched so much daytime TV! Be careful not to overdo it. And the painkillers are a must otherwise you won't want to do the exercises. I'm 8 weeks in and can't believe the difference from first 3 weeks. Still on one crutch, still can't sleep through the night, still can't get my sock on and have to get my daughter to shave my legs and cut my toe nails. but it does get better. Don't measure yourself against others that does your head in. I'm 58 and looking forward to getting my life back! Hang on in there!
Julie
Hi Julie
Trying to avoid daytime tv in favour of box sets or reading! I'm still taking paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly every day to maintain my pain relief so I can move around as much as possible and do my exercises. Can feel my weight climbing steadily as a result of nibbling biscuits, chocolate and probably eating meals that are too big when I'm not using any energy! I have such an appetite some days. Can't wait to be using the operated leg. I know I'll have to ease into things after 3 weeks partial weight bearing but just want to get moving properly again. Counting the days to my 6 week check with the surgeon. Seeing the physio tomorrow - will hopefully get more exercises to do. Will have to get my daughter to shave my legs and will go for another pedicure in a couple of weeks. It's only 2 weeks since my op - have to keep reminding myself of this. You sound like you're doing well. I imagine driving again feels like you've got your life back. Being stuck indoors is awful.
Hi Renee thank you for your message....I live in the U.K....north wales but moving to Chester in a couple of weeks...and not sure iv been brave.....it's just the way life can s for me iv been divorced 13yrs ....kids flown living their lives and both parents died within 6 weeks of each outher last year.....that was painnlike iv never felt๐
But they were in 80s and life goes on
I'm on blood thinning tabs one morn one eve Gotta keep taking 4 weeks Nurse been to check dressing all clean and take bloods....I feel pretty good and on one crutch but not taking my ch1 weight on poorly leg.....you sound like your doing fine and healing the way you want and that's great....๐
Ps staples being removed on 16feb ...I also had a spinal so don't know if that makes a difference?
Hi Julie sounds like your doing great....I drove to the hospital my car is still there...hope it doesn't get towed! Lol. I'm hoping to get a taxi next mon and pick it up...it's a automatic and hospital about 6miles away...but that will definitely depend on progress xx
Yes I think rest sleep exercise and lots more f good food is key.....I didn't put my experience on to say wow look at me...it was just to say healing can vary and if like me you are alone sometimes in a strange way ...maybe it can help you heal....stay on positive....I was feeling pretty low ๐ญ thinking I'm not going to manage...but I have and I am....it's early days I know x
Hi Alyson
Can you get someone to pick your car up for you? Be sure to check your insurance. Many companies insist you don't drive for 6 weeks. If it's your left hip and the car is automatic that might change things I suppose.
Yes they did say at hip school 4/6 weeks and it's my right hip ...and a sports car so low...but il asses the situation on Sunday ...if I think it will cause probs I won't do it xx thank you xx
Hi, just found and joined forum ,I am on start of week five tomorrow, I can walk without a stick unless tired but not completly straight up right as hip top is still swollen and brused
the info I got from hospital was very little and nothig really helpfull to understand what recovery would be like. skin aroud scar site is very hard and uncomfortable.
I stopped stockings when I came home and even in hospital did not use their pain killers but the one from home as It never upset my stomach and always worked, I'm down to 4 a day - half normal use as very little pian just discomfort

see Dr at hospital in 2 weeks for checkup hope all goes well
Your doing very well. Have a great attitude and you'll be home in a few days.
Many healinh blessings sent ur way.
Hopexxx
hi alyson,
that is a lot to deal with, darling ... no matter how old your parents were, it feels like it is too soon ... I am so sorry for your loss ..
And you are moving ??? Make sure you get a lot of help ... it is very easy to overdo things, like bending, reaching, lifting, twisting ... It is great that you are feeling and doing good, but still, it was major invasive surgery, okay ...
be well and take care
angel blessings

Hi
I had the same problem waking and desperate to get to the loo. No idea why and now 8 weeks down the line it's not as bad. I still use one crutch but can move around small spaces without. My scar was very tight and sore but it's much better now and I've started using bio oil twice a day to soften it. Don't abandon your stick until you are fully ready or you could end up with a limp and keep taking painkillers if only paracetamol as they will help keep you walking 🚶
I also have a sports car but now driving back in my mini couldn't imagine getting in the sports car at the mo tooo low! Be careful you don't want dislocation at this stage better to get someone to pick it up for you.
