I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this so I'm sorry if it's not. I have fibromyalgia. Iv had two hard lumps and on the backs of my hands now for years and they never really bothered me. I had them checked and the doc at the time didn't seem to concerned so I forgot about them.
Lately though I'm pretty sure they have grown and I have very sharp, nerve like pain in my right and and I have also noticed one on the corner of my foot. ( like the bottom knucklebit of your big toe but on the side.) that's also hard and feels like bone. Iv the same very sharp pain from that to.
I don't won't bother the doctor with nothing so thought I'd see if anyone else has come across this??
I think you need to see your doctor - without seeing them it is hard to suggest anything. The ones on the back of your hands could be what are called a ganglion. If they grow and are close to a nerve that can cause pain. Or it could be bony spurs or something called Heberden's nodes. But that isn't a real suggestion out of context.
GPs are there to decide what is needing further investigation and what they can reassure you about. Go and ask. They are paid to do that job - it isn't something that needs to be done tomorrow but an appointment next week or the week after is fine.
I would definitely see the doc and ask for referral to rheumatologist. I have lots of lumps on my hands and my rheumy is now checking for RA. I have had xrays and now waiting for scans too for confirmation. I am between diagnoses of RA, PMR and fibro and unfortunately until someone can make up their mind I cannot take any meds that could help. Prednisolone really helped me, in fact made a huge difference but doc only prescribed one week and won't give me anymore till rheumy decides and she won't till all scans are done, which won't be for at least another six weeks then wait for follow up. Till then I can do very little! Sorry! This is about your lumps not my prob! A lot of the time if you are not too concerned then your gp won't be, and remember it costs them to refer you, so you have to insist, not all will just offer a referral and I have known a couple be extremely reluctant, even after I had a TIA. When I did eventually get to see the stroke doctor she was furious that my gp had not sent me immediately as the brain scan would have been different.

My daughter has Fibromyalgia too but doesn't have anything like that.
However,I have previously had ganglions on the back of both hands at different times but they weren't painful and have now disappeared.
I also had a painful lump on the side of my foot at the joint and that turned out to be a bunion which was subsequently operated on.
You will need to see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.
Why spend time worrying about something instead of just asking your doctor.
After all,that's what they're there for.
