Hi all I'm having a bad week this week. I'm just curious if anyone else suffers with their teeth and gums?? I'm struggling to eat at the minute due to the overwhelming nerve pain in my gums when I eat. Does anyone else have this problem?X
On occasions I have had aching jaw, bleeding gums and I always have sensitive teeth. This could be fibromyalgia related. I use sensodyne tooth paste and mouth wash which helps. I used corsydyl but it started to stain my teeth but the dentist said its ok for a week. The good news is these measures with paracetamol help and it passes. The dentist said I have lost some bone density in some teeth and may lose these. I have to have local anaesthetic for the hygienist as my teeth are so sensitive.
Perhaps best to make dental appt

Well he has fitted me for a splint to wear at night so my teeth don't clench and cause further pain. He did a few tests and all were normal so indicating that it's all due to the Fibro xx
Thank you. I have been measured for a splint to wear at night to prevent my teeth clenching and causing further pain x
Cant say Im surprised hun flaming fibro, pleased all your tests came back normal for you though. fibro has alot to answear to. no fun no joke. you take care gentle hug xx
Hi Nicola
Yes I have had problems with bleeding gums and pain in my teeth and jaw.
I even went to dentist and he found nothing wrong.
Sometimes I get pain in my ears and jaw.
I asked doctor and he said it was part of the fibro.
Best to have a check just incase.
Hugs Mace.x
Hi Nicola,
i too have a lot of trouble with my teeth, well my whole mouth. I've had to have a number of teeth root filled to try to lessen the sensitivity but wouldn't you know it, I discovered I have more roots in my teeth than is usual. I also get a lot of ulceration in my mouth especially across the back of my mouth where my soft palate is. Finally I have just received an appointment to see an oral surgeon as my jaw dislocates a lot and I have facial numbness around the joint itself.
im not saying all of this is down to fibro, in fact I know the jaw isn't. I also have EDS but it's difficult to know which is fibro related and which is EDS. I now have a splint, very much like a mouth guard but not as bulky, as I grind my teeth at night and that has helped with the sensitivity. I also use sensodyne rapid relief, so if I have a particularly sensitive tooth I can simply put a covering of toothpaste on it. Finally there is a product that your dentist can coat your teeth with. NHS patients get a bright orange stuff that tastes like bubblegum, but there is a brilliant procedure that cost about £20 per coating. Tastes terrible but is very effective, so have a word with your dentist.
Good luck with it, Lisa xx
I get phantom pain in my upper jaw line 'occasionally' ... My jaw bone thumps and aches, no sensitive teeth as they have all had root canals what's left of my teeth. I have a top denture. It does need replacing as it's very worn.
I have had electrical zaps across the back of my tongue and it zip zaps round the side of it to. But my neck is stuffed as is my spine and soft tissue surrounding from a MVA. Compression issues. I have had wicked pain since my MVA, some stayed, some lessoned and then other issues have crept in. I was diagnosed with CNS damage, (Central nervous system) and Head Trauma issues. However our lovely wonderfull ACC system here works wonders at twisting independant doctor and specialist reports to read cobble de goop and almost to the point you never had an accident at all... Absolutely disgusting... This is New Zealand I'm talking about. We here are fighting this corrupt system currently, and slowly somewhat as it's taking years.
Sorry I am off subject.... I do have problems with gums and bleeding, I put that down to the stresses on my bodies natural defense system when managing or not managing 'really bad full body flareups'.. It drags the system down so much. My gums bleed easily, and I easily get ulcers which I treat with Baking Soda. Best thing out. A daily mouth wash with warm Baking soda is awesome! Best and cheapest thing ever!.. I have only discovered this in conversation to use it. So on a bad ulcer the size of a small/med fingernail, I dampen a cotton bud dip it in the baking soda and make sure it's got heaps on it and I hold directly on the 'ulcer'.... yes it can be painful but like childbirth it's over in time. When the worst of the pain is over I even smear a little more on for good measure! hahaha Over night the ulcer is clearing up, and not pain or discomfort at all since the treatment. Within a 2 - 3 day period it's gone! For those sore ulcerations on the tongue, the same applys. They can completely be gone by the next day! Brilliant stuff, Highly recommend it.
I do get a deep pain in my ear, my left ear. My left side is the most affected from my MVA. This pain just comes and goes and this one has only began in the last 3 years. It's deep and goes deep into the inner muscles of my neck and chest and back. My friend who had Rheumy and Fibro actually had the same pain.
All the best to you going forward... try not to stress about it. These pains and places they arrive at will come and go. Not life threatening.. All the best going forward nicola51831
Hi to Lisa, Nicola and ALL; Yes to all the above (too lazy to type the same again).....but yes the Sensodyne toothpaste is good and as said, if over painful, rub a bit on tooth....also have the splint to wear ALL the time (but have to take out when talking/eating........but my surgeon said he wants me to wear it STOP me from talking....he doesn't know me very welll, hey, as how can I Not talk.....I'm always having to put my two bobs in)........but it certainly helps to relax the facial muscles which do get Very tender when I do talk......and Yes to the sore teeth and gums, and treat same as has been said......I also know that my Neurotin (Gabapentin) helps block the nerve pain, too..........trial all of the above suggestions, Nicola, and if your dentist won't help, try someone who understands Fibro (ask for a referral to a specialist who fits Brace and understands/knows re Fibrp).....good luck, from me too.....Bron
