Has anyone been diagnosed with Mycoplasma Genitalium? What were your symptoms?

I was diagnosed with Mycoplasma Genitalium a week ago when I went to an Urgent Care Clinic. I was tested for STDs and they did a Urine Test, and that’s what it came back positive for.

They prescribed me with Azithromycin for 5 days, and it felt like it was clearing up the first two days but now it’s just worst.

My vagina is really red, and there’s like a light burning sensation externally. My fordyce spots appear to be very irritated on my inner labia, and I have this constant itching feeling. These are the same symptoms I’ve been having for the past three weeks, just more progressive.

I went to my Gynecologist today for a Urine and Swab Culture to see what else is going on. They stated that there’s blood in my urine, and they prescribed me with Metronidazole to try and “kick out” whatever is remaining.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with this before? If so, how long did it take for your symptoms to go away? I’ve been Googling it like crazy because I’ve never heard of it before, but I was hoping to get some personal experience opinions.

MG can be a tricky problem to treat. Common antibiotics like penicillin kill bacteria by damaging a germ’s cell walls. But MG bacteria don’t have cell walls, so these drugs don’t work very well.

Your doctor might try azithromycin (Zithromax, Zmax) first. If that doesn’t work, your doctor might give you moxifloxacin (Avelox).

After a month, you can get another test to make sure the infection is gone, but it’s not a good idea to get routine tests if you don’t have symptoms from MG. If you still have symptoms and you still have the disease, you’ll need to get more treatment.
