I see several people mentioning contacts to try out degrees of monovision. I’ve never worn contacts and don’t know if I could. Would it be possible to do a similar trial with glasses?
The advantage of using contacts over glasses is that trying different powers of lenses on a trial basis is much cheaper or even free with contacts. Costco for example will give you 5 or so contacts without any charge. So potentially you could get 5 of each power you want to consider and try them all to see what you like. Much harder, more time consuming, and more expensive to do with glasses. The other issue is that an eyeglass lens is much further away from your eye, and does not behave totally the same for the same power of correction as a contact. I think the image size you see on the retina is not the same, even though both images are sharp. When I switch from contacts to glasses I kind of feel dizzy for a while.

I have tried several brands of contacts (at Costco) and my favourite is the least expensive Costco Kirkland lens (CooperVision My Day). Easy to put in and take out, and the most comfortable of the ones I have tried. Second place was the Alcon Total 1, and third place was the J&J Acuvue Oasis. Alcon has since come out with a new lens called Precision 1. It would be worth a try too, but I have not tried it.

If you deal with Costco they will help you with putting the lenses in and taking them out. You will have to explain to them that you want to try under correction so they can’t use your eyeglass prescription directly and will have to compensate to give you the various degrees of under correction.
