Hi
At the start of last year I started to experience swollen glands and very painful joints followed by fatigue ect, i had bloods taken every month from march, testing my thyroid. every month they came back clear but i still felt horrible. In July my results came back Severely Under Active which apprently is \"unusual\" according to my doctor as they had never showed anything but normal the previous month.
I was given 100m of levethyroxine and by November i felt better aside from my joint which had suffered considerable damage which i now attend physio for.
However three weeks ago i felt my symptoms creeping back in, i thought i had nothing better to do than go back to the docs and it would show in my blood but once again they are clear and i feel just as horrible and in a lot of pain.
long story for a sort question has anyone ever had the same bother and if so, what did you do because im losing the plot now. they cant put my meds up till it shows in my blood so im just going to get worse till it shows up.
thank you
Michaela
Do you know what your last results were ?
Ideally you want a TSH of 1 or below, T4 at the top of the range and T3 in the middle.
Just because results are in range does not mean that is right for you, if you are having hypo stmptoms you should be getting an increase to see if that helps. 100mcg is not a huge amount to be on, 125 - 150 is about average but some need more.
GP is wrong in saying they can't put up your meds, they should be treating you on how you feel and not the numbers from the lab.
Sadly most GP's don't do that. See if a different GP will help and keep at it, it is your body and you need it to be working well.
Thanks very much for replying,
Im clueless when it comes to the results my doc never goes into them in great detail however i think thats something i need to take in hand and get a grip on.
I didnt realise that what the doc was saying could be wrong, she basically says that the would not put meds up as it could cause problems, ie overactive but i will question her in more detail om that. the only thing i didnt mention in my post was that she did say my result was slightly overactive so i dont know if that changes things.
Basically i was starting to get it in to my head that this pain and fatigue must be caused by something else because it takes so long to show the thyroid malfunctioning in my blood results, i wondered if it was something else that also malfuntioned the thyroid, the doc said it was unlikely, so im just waiting for it to show but beginning to struggle at work now.
after reading all the experiences i can see this may just be how it is until it shows up. but i will def get a better understanding of my results.
Thanks again
You are entitled to a printout of your results and it's a good idea to keep copies so you know your levels.
If your results do indicate slightly hyper then that's probably why they won't give you more, a lot of docs see levels lower that 1 and think you are hyper, this is not the case as 1 or below is the aim.
You need to be treated on how you feel but obviously you don't want to be hyper.
My own results show I am on slightly to high a dose ( 150mcg ) but it's the dose that works for me and my GP is happy to go along with that, treating me on how I feel and not the numbers.
As I said TSH 1 or below, T4 at the top or slightly over and T3 in th middle, you do of course need to know the ranges for your area, should be printed with results.
