Hi all,
This post is about my partner who's been suffering from GERD for over three decades. He has been taking PPI's and H2 blockers for years now, never a combination of both but he has tried man things and the problem just seems to be getting worse.
A few months back we heard about the procedure “Stretta”” but the GI doctor mentioned he wouldn’t be a candidate for that and he suggested LINX. After a series of tests and the last one being the Esophageal manometer test, he was told that he as a very weak esophagus and the LINX procedure would cause swallowing problems therefore that option was also ruled out. He is now being given a combination of PPI’s and H2 blockers to help reducing the acid. The doctor also mentioned the half Nissen procedure.
He has been staying away from this option for various reasons; complications, ineffectiveness and also nutritional lifestyle changes which sometimes requires many years of liquid diet. I am still hopeful that in this day and age maybe the procedure has advanced and the side effects are milder than before. So I am wondering if anyone here has recently had the Half Nissen procedure done and if so what’s your experience been like. I would truly appreciate your personal and professional feedback as we had our hopes up to finally being able to get him some relief.
Many thanks,
