Has anyone heard of SUBOXONE?

Has anyone out there either heard of or has had any experience with the drug Suboxone as a way of getting off the pain killers?

As some of you know, and others not this is my 3rd major surgery in a row.

I've gone from rotator cuff surgery to a hipb replacement and now to my knee replacement.

I breezed easily thru the first two surgeries but this knee is a bitch!

It's come to the point where the pain killers barely work and my body craves them even if I'm not in pain.

I'm sick and tired of this whole situation. It's more than 1 person can bare.

I need help. And someone told me about a drug called suboxone.

Any thoughts?

I swear...i don't care if i break my back...I'M THRU WITH SURGERIES!

Sorry that you're feeling so down, David - I would too, in your circumstances. I haven't heard of Suboxone, but it does sound as if you need some help with this issue. Would it be naive of me to suggest you discuss the situation with your doctor? Have you done this already?

While I feel your pain ( literally), please don't jump from one medication to another without more information.

If you're in the UK, it's that horrid time when night sets in and everything seems much worse......please get help as soon as you can x

Yea Nex i have talked to a doc about it that's why I'm asking others opinion.

Btw...what do you mean the "nights are setting in by you?"

Aren't we (UK & US) in the same seasons?

David, definitely talk with your dr about this drug. A combination of opiod and naloxone which is used for opiod overdose. Looks like there are issues with this drug too so get the right info first. Best of luck.

Sorry.....same season, different time zones!! I meant it's around midnight here, whereas you have a few more hours of evening.....I think that's right anyway!

Yea...its 7pm here right now

Ohh great...now they're censoring my comments.

For Gods sake...EVERYONE hates me....even the moderator of this site.

Cant a GUY VENT?????

David

sorry you have also been in the worst way . I have also had a lot of surgery but the TKR was by far the worst .  I don't know the drug . I just know please don't get on Fentahyl patch . Run if you can its so hard to come off . I am typing now after 3 1/2 years I also take Dilaudid . I feel at this dose I would be out of pain but no pain it worse . I think my body just likes it . I want my left back . After infection in my replacement I had to have it removed and wait months without a knee then they did but one back in and my leg is not the same and was told I am lucky to still have my leg . Talk to your Doctor and see if they can help you . With all that you been with surgery your poor body . I feel for you . I wish you the best .

You hit it on the head Deb. At this point id much rather endure the pain of the physical ills of surgery than the "pain of craving those bloody opiods!"

One surgery i coped easy. The second just as well. This KNEE...is taking me to the dark side, and I'm scared to death.

And FYI....I've learned one HUGE LESSON.

NEVER EVER TELL A PSYCH DOCTOR YOU'RE SCARED TO DEATH, OR ADMIT YOUR WEAKNESS'

All they know how to do is LOCK YOU UP!

I'm NOT A DRUGGIE...I'M NOT A DANGER TO MYSELF OR OTHERS...

I'VE HAD 3 SURGERIES IN A ROW AND THEY'RE POURING PAINKILLERS DOWN MY THROAT.

Then you tell them you're craving them even if you're not in "that much pain..." damm they turn 180° and talk to you as if you're some street heroin addict!

And you're right Nex...things get SUPER SCARY AT NIGHT!

I swear i wake every night at 3am from some night fright dream.

They say 3am is the "dead hour" when evil spirits are more likely to attack you...if you believe that stuff.

I never did...until recently. I don't even have to look at the clock...i wake screaming in cold sweats lately...and i say to myself...watch I'll look at the clock and its gonna be 3am plus or minus 15 minutes...and ya know what?

IT ALWAYS IS!

Yes I know I told my Doctors at this point if I am going to be in pain then why do I need to stay on the patch . I have a lot of friends that do the NATURAL meds . And only at night there doing mush better then I am so I might try it after I get off this junk . Or just live with it . But I do think the doctors treat you fine tell you say I don't want the pain meds . I just want my head free I have never felt so dispredded in my whole life and when I say that to the doc they want to give you more pills I said no . Just let me go .  I am so sorry you have to deal with it also . Sometimes it's good to Vent

Also I told my doc I will NEVER EVER DO THIS KNEE AGAIN GOD TAKE ME HOME .

Hi David,

pits Damy, I was wondering how u were doing. For some reason I hadn't seen ur posts in quite awhile.

SO, I'm sorry to hear how difficult this has been for you!!!!!

i am not familiar w/ the drug or the feeling of craving the opioids .

What pain killer have u been on? I really feel for you😢😥 hope u get this sorted out.

how is ur friend masuhggama Linda?

i do relate to the Drs. Feeling that we're addicts when we ask for new prescriptions for drugs! There has been so much hype about Drs. Who have prescribed opioids so freely that there is a major epidemic out there.

thinking of you and wishing you some relief. I was fortunate and didn't have to take the drugs for much longer than 4 weeks. And at that it was codeine which I don't believe is the strongest of the narcotics.

I too would wake up soaking wet from night sweats. And yes, night time is scary and one feels very alone.

YOU SAID IT!

If i didn't love my dog 🐕 I'm ready to go home myself! (sort of)

Hey Damy.

Thanks for writing.

I haven't written exactly because I'm doing so bad.

No one wants to hear from you when you're hurting.

As for Linda i haven't heard from her lately.

And you're right...the tele is inundated with stories of opioid abuse and doctors over prescribing blah blah blah.

It's unfortunate because those of us that legitimately need them it makes things harder for us and makes us look bad.

Those of you that have spouses are truly fortunate. When i wake at 3am frightened and sweaty Venus my 4 legged best friend is like...leave me alone, go back to bed!

Ok Venus...I'll remember that in the morning when you want breakfast.

Ohhh life is .... 😞

Oh David, glad u still have some of ur sense of humor in tact! I actually missed ur posts as u are a very funny guy.

We r all here to support each other, so post, rant, whatever helps you and I assure you that u will get back a pack of love and support from this group. I know from ur earlier posts that this is not what u expected. I don't think that most of us got what we thought would be the outcome. Rest well and keep posting.

Yes, I feel fortunate, especially to have such a caring spouse. But, no dog lol

🐕 💘

Good day to you David and everyone else, I am 72 and had a TKR on the 29/03/2016 and like all of you suffered pain like no other, no matter what painkillers I took the pain did not ease, I was so desperate that I took cocktails of painkillers for nothing, the only thing they did was constapate me and caused bleed because of the forcing to go.

Well I tried everthing and every way to eliminate pain and descovered that positioning  upright was better than the bed, so why hardly any pain sitting up or sleeping on a recliner and yet once in bed the pain starts, well let me tell you what I think happens and can say this because I did the following and the pain was minimal and slept well. When one gets into bed the body snugs itself in the mattress which bends the body enough to pull the damaged muscle's and nervse's that give the unbearable.

I placed a folded duvet on the bedroom carpeted floor, placed two pillow against the skirting and a few pillows each side of me and of to sleep, got up once for the loo and back to sleep, you will be wondering how I got up,well I also placed a chair each side of me to assist me getting up.

Those who fear  they won't get up once down, invest on a sheet of plyboard 15mm or thicker and place it on the bed and cover it with the duvet, but before you do this have someone to lift the mattress up to see if the bed is solid under the mattress and if it is you can use it instead of the plyboard, you may also want with assistance try the floor first to test if it works for you.

I think that if you can get up and down it's well worth giving up the bed to be free from pain, It worked for me and hope it work's for you if you give it a go.

Good Luck, God Bless

David, what are you taking and how often??  I believe that at some point the pain is worse as the opiat pain killers wear off.  As for the dreaming....I did that too....I started cutting back on pain pills and added sleep aid for night.  You are still early in recover for the TKR.  Sounds like the lack of sleep, not being able to do what you want, the pain....etc...you are a mess.  I did this same thing.....maybe your is worse...was there any time between opiate pain meds and your surgeries???  Told you....I counted them...was super freaked I would run out over weekend....this lasted 3 weeks for me.  I started stretching the pills...to 6 hours...then 8...then 12.  Mine had Tylenol in it so I took 1 and an extra strength Tylenol.

I also had had the terrors and dreams at night....for me this was drug induced for sure.

you could also take melatonin for sleep...it is a natural sleep aide.

Pam

Ohh Pam...yea you've hit it on the head.

Sounds like you've been through everything i am.

There was "some time" between surgeries but not more than 3 months tops. I needed to get the body fixed asap as my career is contingent upon it.

So i feel...believe my body has developed a tolerance for the pain meds and its scaring the daylights out of me...and YES EXACTLY...THE WEEKENDS...YOU FREAK OUT WHAT IF YOU RUN OUT ON THE WKNDS?

Omg...when will this end?
