I have a good friend asking about this because of my experience with prostate surgery.
HoLep was my choice and I am very satisfied with the outcome . I would like to get some input from anyone who would care to share their experience.

I’m just going to make a comment. What worked for you may not work for your friend. He is going to have to search and ask question see a few doctors with what is his problems. What you wanted out of it and your concerns may not be the same for your friend.
I wish his luck in his search. There are some procedures that are less evasive if that is what he wants to do but look at all the options.

As Ken says different results for different people. Three of us had PVP at different UK hospitals in 2004. All our prostates were different sizes from 40 to 75 grms. I was the 75 grm.
First one had to have a repeat procedure after less than three years. Over nine years my one regrew to 135 grms. and I then had a Thulium/Holmium procedure (similar to HoLep) The third has now passed year 14 without needing another procedure but is taking one a day 5mg. Cialis to help his flow and his original surgeon is happy with that.
o am 9 months out and very satisfied!
Why not telling your friend about hoLep ? hoLep has an incredible repeat rate of 1% in 10 years, as indicated by long term results. Derek is one living proof. He has not needed a repeat in 13 years.

No, I had a second after 9 years. It was one of the others who is till OK after 14 apart from raking Cialis.

I did advise him to go for HoLep but surgeon could not do it until late February. He does not want to wait that long.
It has been around for a long time now and is on its third generation of the equipment so many Uro’s are very well versed in it. Now I would elect for HoLep but only because it saves tissue to check for cancer cells.
The team who did my one in the UK described PVP as a very gentle procedure suitable for large prostates and one of their patients had been 92. They used it for nine years before changing to HoLep as they said on a ‘split decision’. I travelled home by train on day two and went to the races the next day and was out and about for over six hours. Everything was back to normal. I find so much on this Forum unbelievable about long recoveries, bleeding, pain and pads and can only assume that as most posters are from the US that standards there are much lower than in Europe.
My friend who has been OK for 14 years had it done in London in the morning and left hospital in the afternoon without a catheter. He went back to the hospital the next morning for a flow test and to check for any residue. All OK then his wife dragged him round the Kings Road Shops before they flew home. in the evening.

Will someone please describe the HoLep and PVP procedures? I had Focal Laser Ablation for a small cancer but I still have an enlarged prostate and urinary probs for which I take Flo Max.
You can find videos for each on youtube. PVP appears to be for smaller prostates <75 and HoLep for larger.
The Uro who used PVP on my 75 grm prostate said that he did many that were 150+
